I was flipping through the cable stations at my boyfriend’s house last night (since I cannot afford the luxury of cable) and I started watching “Celebrity Weddings” on VH1. I already cant stand MTV because they destroyed music and the TV shows there like the Real World are boring and I dont find petty squabbling entertaining.

What really annoyed me was Celebrity Weddings. The program glorified the marriages of Rosie O’Donnell and Melissa Ethridge. All these celebrities showed up to the “commitment ceremonies” and acted like there was nothing wrong with it. Then they showed scenes of Rosie O’Donnell calling Bush brutal and insensitive because he is trying to ban gay marriage. It just irritated me because it was clear as day where VH1 stood on the issue. Also, they act like everyone should accept gay marriage and bash those who dont, making them hypocrits because they’re insenstive too. Personally, Im not a Bush fan, but I dont find him “insensitive” for protecting marriage for this country.

Those stations are so biased in every program they have. I cant stand it. Kids are watching these shows and they believe whatever the hottest artist on TV says nowadays.

You know, Im all about being sensitive to gay people because I would hate to live the life they are living, but dont go and mandate that gay marriage is ok because Rosie O’Donnell and Melissa Ethridge said so.

Ahhh, I feel better now. Any thoughts?

Programing on MTV and VH1 is just plain odd compare to 15 years ago, around the time the first season of real world came about. They are called entertainment stations, but there is nothing entertaining about them. No music, just gossip.

MTV/VH1 is Garbage…(a venting post)
I came to that conclusion around 1990. Where you been? 😃

Just kidding. I was once late on my cable bill about a year ago and they disconnected me and told me they would charge a large reinstallation fee. The light went on in my head: What am I really getting out of cable? Not enough. So I told them to jump in the lake and have discovered so many joys.

Do it everyone. Rip that cable out like yer startin’ a lawnmower. 👍

not to mention that mtv teaches children to act like idiot’s and tell young girls it’s “cool” to be anorexic. It’s “cool” to lose your virginity at 12. Plus, there complete lacking in canadian talent furiates me.

I watch muchmusic, not much better, but it’s only for the videos, which can be very good at very few times.

I think I’m gonna cancel my cable…it’s seems only the logical thing to do…oh am I ever gonna miss discovery channel and the food network…oh well.

We have both of these channels (among many others) blocked on our TV. Our kids weren’t happy about it, but that’s life. I sure wich I could block commercials during sports shows. (Sorry, that really should be another thread.)

MTV and VH1 used to be ok (sorta). I didn’t watch MTV much 'cause they never played any music videos. VH1 wasn’t as bad…but then again I stopped watching 5 years ago so its probably gone downhill since then.

All MTV is, is one big advertisement. They try and sell you the music, the “cool” clothes, the cool cars, the cool …(insert product here)… And if they can get you go become a socialist, marxist, leftist in the process they will! okay, done ranting now :tsktsk:

And who watches MTV and VH1? Kids do. They know this and they fully intend to indoctrinate America’s youth with this immoral garbage. MTV and the like is banned from my house.

MTV is also the the parent station of Nickelodian, so if we ever get cable again (probably not) I’ll have to decide whether or not to let my kids watch it. Now I hear that Viacom is coming out with an all gay channel. What is this world coming to? (crazy mother rant over now)

This is news?

I am old enough to remember when music video stations played music videos, and sports stations showed actual sports. Like, you know, GAMES?

Who needs 5 hours of SportsCenter a night? Nobody!

As someone else pointed out, MTV is just one big advertisement… it’s all about product placement or selling a lifestyle. Sometimes the product they are placing is related to music, sometimes not. The implicit (and sometimes explicit) message is that all teenagers/young adults are very secular and materialistic, and sexually permissive… they sell a veneer of “rebellion” and “self-expression”, but they want to make sure that your self-expression involves buying the brand of cola/cologne/acne cream/clothes/music that they happen to be advertising.

VH1 is more entertaining sometimes - I had to laugh when I saw “I love the '80s” a while ago.

I suppose much of this is a moot point for me, as I am unwilling to pay $50/month for cable, so I see this stuff very rarely anymore.
