Here’s another question from BaconMan.

"So I like metal, most genres, but I was wondering, bands that have satanic or anti-christian themes are probably a sin to listen too, more still purchase, so I stay away from bands like Slayer, Venom, Mercyful Fate, and almost all black metal, but what about bands with pagan themes, like many folk metal bands such as Primordial, is it a sin to listen to them?

It’s a ridiculous article that over analyzes everything. I’ve seen that before, and I’ve also seen Cardinal Ratzinger’s strange ideology when it comes to rock as well.

yes, i can see how you would think it’s ridiculous, your religion being “heavy metal” according to your profile.

it’s not so much rock or metal itself that is bad, it’s the artists choice of lyrics and where their inspiration comes from for these songs, there are alot of satanic or anti-Christian or whatever else artists our there, i’ve even heard some of these artists openly telling about their satanic inspiration and how they use their music to influence us,
of course not every singer is that way, i’m not trying to condemn all singers here or anything, i’m just saying yes there is a big problem here with alot of our music, and i can tell you from my own personal experience, when i listened to all that kinda music, all it gave me were selfish feelings of all kinds of pride and pity,
music does make us feel and it does speak to us in an entirely different way, it speaks to your heart and moves you and you listen to it without even thinking.
i can’t say everyone is like this, but i also can’t claim to be a completely unique individual who is the only one who has experienced it this way.

well, sorry that this is totally not what the OP was asking, but in my opinion, that article has alot of truth in it, even if you don’t agree with everything, it will still make you think and see things in a way you didn’t before.

So what kind of bands did you listen to? More specifically, what were the names of these songs that induced selfish feelings inside you?

well, i can’t remember all of them, but ones like Linkin Park, Breaking ben, garbage, blink 182, green day, seether…all those kinda bands,
i never got into music so much that every song that sounded good i listened to, i still kept an eye on the lyrics, but it was still just no good for me ya know? i wasn’t getting anything good out of it, it didn’t give me peace like when i listen to like classical music or something, it just lead me to feelings of self righteousness or depression.

i can’t explain it entirely, i just know i’m happier now and i have more peace…

Linkin’ Park, Breaking Benjamin, etc.? Their lyrics are tame. If you get feelings of self-righteousness then don’t listen to it, but not everyone gets such feelings listen to rock music. Also keep in mind, that classical music is not the only genre of music that brings peace to others.

Glad to know you’re happier and have more peace. I’m happy and peaceful just as it is listening to heavy metal

i listened to heavy metal for awhile to before i realized the lyrics were just trash for the most part,

It really depends on which bands you listen to. i know, i understand what you’re saying, as i said before, in and of itself that type of music is not evil, and not all artists are bad or have bad music, but we just have to be careful and use discretion when deciding on whatever we let into our lives this way.

i don’t think i ever liked the really hard core heavy metal bands, like screaming my brains out bloody murder type, but there were a few that i enjoyed,
i didn’t actually list off any of the heavy metal bands though…and i didn’t know any of the ones i listed were known as such d:
but anyways…yeah, i don’t even remember the names of half the things i use to listen to, and another thing with it for me was, it just wasn’t something i could share with God, and for me…i just didn’t like that.

Classic music? Sense of peace? More like it made me wanna drill a hole in my head than anything else. -_-

Honestly, if it wasn’t for contemporary and popular orchestrated pieces, I’d blast classic music as the most utterly boring strings of tune I’ve ever heard.

Then again, to each his own. Everyone’s entitled to their musical tastes.

Honestly though, I’d rather recount the story of my life listening to Boulevard of Broken Dreams than frustrate myself with music I can’t relate to.
