I had posted a thread back in August regarding listening to different types of pop music, long story short I have always believed in god and the teachings of the catholic church but was never very serious and/or devoted per say, I didn’t go to church and never really did anything else. In June I had decided to start going to church and living a more catholic life I noticed one of the major things I did was listened to pop music, which had terms and language that I realized god would not approve of and stopped listening to it, the thread was regarding that. Now to get to the point, I now listen to christian music 80% of the time but every once in a while will listen pop rock bands but I am very careful of the songs I listen to. This probably is a rather stupid question but, I was wondering if it is ok for me to listen to this music every once in a while since I am very careful in the songs I listen to. I realize there are no official teachings on this so I just wanted some opinions.🤷

Thank You,
God Bless

When it comes to what music I listen, I first do some background check on the band cuz depending on their life, is their music.

I listen to death metal, metalcore, symphonic metal, opera, classical music, other kinds of rock but I don’t choose it by genre nor by song, I choose by bands. And yes, they’re all christians 😃
example of a death metal (christian) is Antestor here so u can listen (the lyrics are on the description of the video)

My all time favorite band is HB. They are great.
Also, listen to The Devil Wears Prada (christian metalcore) here and here is another one
I’m sure there are great christian pop out there.

I don’t listen to contemporary Christian music. It just never moves me. I like hymns when it comes to faith based music.

When I am riding in the car I either listen to pop or rock.

As long as the music doesn’t lead you to sin, it is fine to listen to.

Well, I listen mainly to alternative 80’s music, and while there are some things I don’t listen to due to their lyrics, I do find myself making “videos” in my head with quite a lot of songs, especially about the lives of my patron saints, and events in Church history. So in a way they’ve become religious music for me.

Love songs I especially find interesting b/c oftentimes they talk about “forever”, “eternal love” etc. and for me that’s really our relationship with God.

take care,
amsjj 🙂

Jesus, God and man,
imprisoned by love in Thy most holy Sacrament,
have mercy upon us.
– Blessed John Henry Newman, December 22, 1851

Zooman,

I really give you credit because you made a big change in your life. Good for you, and I know that God is happy with you. I did pretty much the same thing as you.

It sounds to me like you are being careful about what you listen to now, so I think you’re in good shaped. Keep up the Church, stuff!👍
