Muslims donate money to repair West Bank, Gaza churches

This is just one branch of Catholic Charities to consider as recipient of any donations for Gaza:

IN GAZA

CRS has been operational in Gaza since 1961, where access to water, electricity, telephone service and food has become steadily more difficult. CRS is distributing food and household supplies to 1,300 families who have been seriously affected by the economic crisis and the recent military action. Recipients are families with little or no income; families that have lost their homes in the current conflict; families displaced by the threat of military action; and farming families that can no longer earn a living because their land has been damaged. Since this latest conflict in Lebanon, CRS has committed $250,000 to Gaza.

I agree. But we also have to use reason. If an organization has had known ties to terror in the past, is it unreasonable to question their motives today? My only purpose was to encourage everyone to eliminate the CAIR middleman to avoid any possibility of aiding in the sponsorship of terror. But from your latest response, I see you agree with me on that.
 
Why is it diffuclt to believe that muslims donated money to repair the churches?
 
OK I seem to have missed something in the translation here. I believe the article said only that CAIR had made a donation in the hopes that other people would also donate. No where does it say that you had to make your donation through CAIR.

Yes, there were some hinky doings going on in CAIR a few years back, but to say not to donate to a seperate organization because of this is just silly.

In fact, I found the gesture rather uplifting considering that at one time they were found to be supporting terrorism, albeit behind the scenes, and now they are attempting to repair the damage. This sorta gives me a feeling of penance being paid.
 
I can think of real ways they can do penance, but they would not do them. They can start by condemning Hamas and Hezbullah. Don’t hold your breath.
 
Yes. I realize that CAIR donated money to repair the churches. Yes. I realize the check was flowing away from CAIR. But in the years since 2001 CAIR has been under a cloud of suspicion because several of their senior members have been arrested for having ties to terror organizations. I’ll put it this way. $5,000 is a drop in the bucket for a charity organization. And it is certainly a worthwhile investment when one is trying to rebuild credibility as a charity. With their credibility restored, they are likely to go back under the radar as an organization raising money for terror.

For our Western sensibilities, this probably sounds very much like a wacky conspiracy theory. But I suspect that there are Christians who have heard the publicity about CAIR giving a check to rebuild churches in Gaza and have, as a result, sent donations of support (after the fact) to show a sign of support for what CAIR is doing. These are the people I am trying to caution, anyone who may begin to consider CAIR a legitimate charity organization again, when is still considered, according to the Washington Times to have “unsettling connections between certain CAIR officials and extremist groups”.

For an organization that feels it is a legitimate cause to raise money for suicide bombers, do you really think it’s that off-the-wall to consider that they would come up with clever ways to send money to Gaza without raising suspicions since many of the old avenues of fund-raising for these groups have been closed down by our government?

In a nutshell: Do you think an organization that is known to have ties with Hesbollah, Hamas, Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, really cares about church vandalism in Gaza?
