Hi and God Bless your work,

My question is:

Does a person going through the RCIA need to choose the name of a saint, for Confirmation. /I say yes, as a Saint is a a model to us in living out our Christian life.

I have been told that a Catholic RCIA confirmation name does not need to be the name of a saint.

Does a Catholic Confirmation name need to be a Saint’s name?

There are no official rules on choosing a confirmation name. Its more a matter of local custom and tradition. Usually confirmation candidates would pick the name of a saint that is particularly meaningful to them or an example they find inspiring. However, the person could also potentially choose the name of someone beatified but not yet canonized or someone who is simply a well respected Catholic figure.
