A few days ago, my friend (who is not a Catholic to my knowledge) and I were having a good and fun discussion on which types of angels would play which types of roles in a war (like normal angels would be the generic soldiers, archangels would be commanders, seraphim would guard God {the king or whoever is the leader in the battle}, etc.).

That night, when I came home from school, I thought to myself, “why don’t I create this on my computer?”. I have some 3d art and modeling software on my computer, so I thought I would use that.

But now I am stuck: I have no idea how I will make some of the angels (specifically, thrones, dominions, powers, virtues, and cherubim) because they are so complex or there is not enough evidence for me to find out what they look like.

So I ask you (especially people who deal with 3d art):
What should I do when / how do I go about making these angels?

BTW: I put this in “popular media” because it seemed to fit with the theme of internet art and such. Please move if necessary!

That sounds like a creative project.

I know in the Bible, when angels appeared to people, they told them to not be afraid, so their physical appearance must have been pretty imposing.

Yeah. I read that cherubim have four faces: one ox, one griffin, one human, and one lion, I think. How am I supposed to create that?

I bet there’s a few billion angels watching you do this right now and laughing.

My guardian angel is probably talking to a few others right now saying, “you won’t believe this - my kid thinks he can actually RECREATE us in a computer! Ha!”.

At least, I hope my guardian angel is getting a good laugh out of it.😃

don’t know the answer, but would love to see what you come up with! 😉

No, your guardian angel is proud of you for putting your talents to good use. 🙂

Angels are spiritual beings, and they don’t have form. Or rather, they can take any form they want. I sort of have this theory, that the angels in the bible appeared the way they did because that’s how the people they were appearing too needed to see them. To Ezekiel, they were frightening and powerful, but to Tobias an angel appeared to be just another person. Like soldiers, they “dress” for what the situation calls for and they wear the proper uniform.

🙂

I know that my angel is proud of me; I was just having fun!

I like your argument. Still, I don’t know how I am going to make an army out of this either way. But I could use this theory to help describe the angels for which we have no description.
