My brother bought a house according to 'The Secret'...:-(

Please pray for my baby brother that got tangled up with the pseudo-spirituality of 'The Secret’with the DVD…he is absolutely serious about all of this! I am so upset! He is not a practising…it is so sad that people who do not believe in a supposed God will swallow this stuff in a blink of an eye…:crying:

I have never heard of “The Secret”, but I understand your concern. There are many such deceptions out there, and my daughter has fallen prey to “new age” deceptions many years ago. She is still thinking and searching, as she has given some evidence that she is doing so.

I, too, am learning to keep giving her to the Lord and focus on loving her with the mind and heart of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray for her daily.

An interesting thing is that she asks me for prayers for the needs of others; and that she admitted to a family member that she has a hard time accepting that Jesus is God. (I believe that in “new age” they all accept themselves as a god?)

G. K. Chesterton (who probably never read Hamilton) said pretty much the same thing when he wrote: “The man who refuses to believe in God will believe in anything.” And how true that is!

Shoshana, I feel so for you and your brother. There are a plethora of cults out there these days taking advantage of people’s gullibility. I will certainly pray for your brother, as you are.

When the whole thing goes south on him, just be there for him in a loving way. He’s going to need you in his corner when that happens.

The reason he bought this house was so my mom could have a granny place to stary…and I was fully behind all of this.

But he bought a $400,000.00 house on the very basis on what the whole secret pertains to…thus…my mom is selling her house (which did not bother me) to help him…but I had no clue at the time of his buying the DVD of The Secret. And living it hook, line, and sinker!

I just may have to start a perpetual prayer for people who are entangled with new age and for the protection of those who are vulnerable!

If you take the secret as a philosophy instead of a religion what exactly is wrong with it? I frankly don’t know any successful business person who does not follow at least some of what is promoted in “The Secret”. In fact, I doubt that there is any leader in the country or perhaps in the world who doesn’t follow at least the basic outlines of the secret.
