I was just wondering who here on the forums is a regular reader of the old book, My Daily Bread by the Confraternity of the Precious Blood.

My pastor advised me to read one chapter per day (a 3-5 minute chore). While it is written long ago, I am sometimes a little suprised by the language, not in a negative way. Rather it is almost a little pleasantly surprising. It has no gender-inclusive language and is in its original format. I accept it as is and have no problems grasping “man” as “mankind”.

Aside from that I thought we could get a thread going on it. I began reading it in June and I am just over half way through it. I love the way it slowly breaks you down, then builds you back up. It seems to always have just the right lesson for you on a given day. Sometimes, those lessons seem to come one day after I needed them. I was dumb enough to think that if I read ahead a few days I might be better equipped to handle them, but the good Lord could not be fooled. No, he wanted me to have a taste of something first, then read to fully grasp its meaning.

Anyone else encounter this with it?

I used to read it all the time until my book started losing pages. Great book.

I used to have it and read it a few years back, and as I recall it was a wonderful little book. My sister has my copy now, and she loves it.
Love,

I do read the “Daily Bread” at times just before I hit the sack and often find myself in the situation as described by the author. At times, we need gentle reminders such as these so that we can correct ourselves and be a better catholic christians. A good spiritual tool.

My sister-in-law just gave me her old copy. I’m just about to start Book One: The Way of Purification.

The book, ‘My Daily Bread’ at a time was my wonderful companion. I used to read it at least a chapter every day and it was amazing how well in my life was, Spiritually and other wise. At a time I discovered that I have been very down and needed to get back to my usual form. I went back and picked up the book again and felt a great impact within few days. I just realized that with this age of electronics, there could be an e-copy somewhere and started searching in the net. To the glory of God I was able to download an e-copy in .pdf version which I can use with my Galaxy Tab and also discovered this great Catholic Answers Forum. It has been amazing.

I Read It!

I thought nobody else in the world, that is not clergy, had no notion of this great book.

I was reading it in the basement of a relative’s, on a family vacation, where I had my sleeping bag out, and was relaxing there. My uncle came down to inquire of my scene, I shared with him my reading as he asked about it. He puffed himself up like a good religious man, yet soon gave the book back to me politely as it does test your manhood. That is …if you are a man of God or a man of the world - pretending to be religious.

Ha ha ha, he basically ran away from me with his tail between his legs.

It is an awesome book that, for me, gives me a daily self check - am I growing spiritually or have I stagnated a bit??? :

I have all 8 or 9 books from the Confraternity as seen below, I cut-copy-pasted from their website: confraternitypb.org/books.html
