I want to ask you what you think of my dress especially for going to church but also in general. I am very conservative in my outfits always wears formal white shirts and black trousers I always button my shirts completely it suits me to put a tie but not all the time. On Sunday I wear my black suit with a white shirt. here my family tell me that I am too conservative but I keep good times these remarks ask me anyway.
I would like to have your opinion dear friends of the house of God.
May God bless you Benisse(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

You appear to be a grown man, so I don’t understand why people are telling you what to wear. Most men at my parish do not wear jackets to Mass, except for special occasions. They usually wear a dress shirt and slacks with a tie, maybe a sweater if it is very cold, or when it is very hot maybe a polo shirt instead. My locale gets both extremely hot and extremely cold seasonal weather.

I think you should dress in the way that you feel appropriate. I love seeing a man wear a suit to weekend Mass.

Dress as you like. In my opinion too many people are overly casual. I’m not a fan of shorts and T-shirts, but I never say anything. My only suggestion to you would be to unbutton the top button if you don’t wear a tie, but do as you feel comfortable.

I think it is never wrong for a man to wear a suit.
However, it depends where you live. It would be completely impractical here in the Philippines when its 32C (90F) and the Church has no aircon!

Your clothing looks fine. It is more formal than what men in my area wear to Mass, as most Catholic men wear something like a polo shirt and khaki pants, unless they are going to serve as lectors or ushers in which case they would dress more like yourself (and probably add a tie). It may be that others are advising you that you don’t need to be so formal or that it makes you stand out, but there is nothing wrong with your dressing that way. You can keep wearing that if you are most comfortable attending church in those clothes.

Thank you to everyone for your answers it makes me wear this outfit it is true that I can also put a tie.
May God bless you Bernard

Hi Bernard. I hope you are doing well.

When I attend church, I try to dress according to what the Blessed Mother revealed to us at Fatima regarding modesty as well as keeping in mind I want to dress with respect because God is the most important person to me. God was the one who clothed us before sending us here and I know the Blessed Mother came to warn us that God is offended by immodest dress. I have learned to dress according to what God says, rather than how I feel (or feel comfortable).

You look very classy and respectable in your dress. with or without a tie. I do believe a tie is always a nice touch.

tldonahue thank you for your answer she joined my thoughts to our holy mother I will continue to dress well to go to church I will wear a tie or a bow tie I think modesty is important I do not see myself going to the church with a half-open shirt I find it bad and unpoly to our God.
Friendship Bernard

I think Your dressing is appropriate.
I think using Jesus and Mary as a “mental rack or model” makes dressing choices easier. Once I picture Jesus (or Mary for a lady, i guess), agreeing to dress and walk about in an outfit, thats my “go no go” or ‘dress don’t dress’.

Asonglaw Thank you very much for your message you are strengthening me in my idea of how to dress for church

I have never seen anyone in Church and thought, “That person shouldn’t have dressed so nicely for this.”
