This is a repeat thread from a different section but I wanted this particular take on my question.

I am a convert to the Catholic Church and I wanted to get your opinion of my “evangelism policy” for lack of a better term.

Non-Christians (or Pre-Christians I like to call them): are fair game.
Ex-Catholics (unfaithful Catholics): are fair game.
Protestants: I don’t actively proselytize. I answer their questions honestly, but often times don’t think those who are asking me questions are spiritually stable enough to handle some of the questions I would bring up to them. Questions and answers that would crumble their foundation for the detriment.

Is this what I should be doing in your opinions?

I am not sure I completely understand all of your statements. Are you indicating that you would actively approach someone to discuss your faith without their initial request to do so, or are you saying you would discuss your faith with them because they have expressed an interest? If it is the first option, I would say be very careful because approaching someone in too aggressive manner can come across in the same way as a Jehovah’s Witness or the door-to-door fundamentalist. This can really be a turn-off more than an encouragement. Also telling someone why they are wrong and you are right has to be handled very tactfully. I think it is best to explain Catholicism as possessing a full measure of truth without denying the the truths found in other beliefs, as they too possess varying levels of truths. Be careful not to put people on the defensive. Coming on too strongly can offset hours of a more gentler approach to educating someone about the faith.

The word “proselytising” for me conjures up images of one being accosted and bombarded with “all you need to do in order to be saved”…Not saying this is what you do, but I agree with JW55 that some methods of evangelisation can be very aggressive and a real turn-off - even to people who might otherwise be open to hearing about the Catholic Faith.

What ever you do (and to whomever you speak) in terms of evangelisation, your guiding principles must always be Truth and Charity.
