I had the privilege of being a welcome guest at a Maronite Mass this last Sunday.
There’s a Maronite church (Our Lady of Lebanon, just a block away from my parish church in Brooklyn) in my neighborhood, and a neighbor and friend asked me to come along to Mass at his church, and then we and our children would be able to get together for brunch and playtime for the kids afterwards. What could be more neighborly than that?
Anyway, it was beautiful. And I understand that some parts of the liturgy are in ancient Syriac, which is the closest thing to Aramaic (the language Christ Himself spoke) that you’ll hear today, so that was very moving for me.
It was absolutely lovely. A fantastic experience for me.
