coreopisis,Thank You for this suggestion. My grandson has an interest in St. Michael. But he seems to shut himself off in his own little world and no one can enter unless he opens the door.

He is enjoying CCD though, which is a good thing.
My son is 13, and I use whatever I can think of to infuse Catholicism in him.

We were playing a video game together called “Resident Evil” Ok it sounds terrible but it isn’t a spiritual game, instead it is about an alien virus that infests people and this virus takes over people towns and societies and all the people turn into zombies and you have to rescue the presidents daughter. It does have guns and you do have to fight, but video game playing is part of our society now. If he wants to play the video games I insist on playing with him so we can talk about it. As I am playing the game I will make comments about how awesome it would be if the programmers had the Arc Angel come down and just straighten things out. I can talk about how it is to bad that the developers didn’t have prayer be one of your weapons you can choose from. I will say how I wish my character had some holy water right about now. I will even go so far as to feel pity for some of the zombies and not shoot them to which my son turns inside out with laughter and does it for me. We’ve grown closer through this game and how silly does that sound. He asks me questions about Saints and angels. He likes games and so I use them to introduce spirituality. (I am embarassed by admitting I will play ER with my son, it is gory, but it seems to be working positively.)

My point is, sometimes you have to sort of try to find a way to show an interest in what they are doing and then sincerely and carefully add your (name removed by moderator)ut so that you are planting seeds, the good seeds, along the way no matter what path they take.

With kids, they are so easily alienated by us because tend to just tell them no instead of taking the time to really show them why we say no. What about playing on their team and showing them what you know as I did with this game?

This is why I offered the comments on mysticism. Well I hope this helps you a little bit. God bless you and your family!

Good advice corepisis,

Video games are not my thing though, unless its the Original Mario Brothers:thumbsup: But I know what you are talking about.

We enjoy drives together and I will sometimes ask him what shape a cloud has taken, kinda like when we were kids laying on our backs during the summer finding all sorts of things in the clouds. I will point out that that cloud sort of looks like an Angel or the other one looks like St. Michaels sword. I try to follow this by saying how cool it was of God to put fun shapes in the clouds for us to enjoy.

I know he hears these comments, but he seems to just brush them off.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

That sounds great. I am confident that your getting through to him he is just not showing it. Don’t stop planting those seeds!

He is really lucky to have a Grandma care for him so much!
God bless you both!

Praying for you, your grandson and your daughter that you may all one day reside in Jesus’s Heart.😉

May Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. Monica with St. Augustine watch over your whole family with their powerful intercesssion…Amen…

I will join my prayers with the prayers that have already been prayed for your grandson
