God made us to know love and serve Him in this life so as to be happy with forever in the next.

To love God we must first get to know Him.

We can make a first step toward knowing Him by familiarizing ourselves with God the Son in the Gospels. We can focus on the Beatitudes because they describe what Jesus is like.

God the Son in the Gospels is the exact same today. When we pray to Jesus we are praying to him as described in the Gospels with the exception that his course here is complete and he is now in heaven. But who Jesus is is the same then as now. Same guy.

The divine nature of Jesus is the same for the whole Trinity and each member. The Athanasian Creed said that which the Son is the Father and Spirit are as well. And Jesus is God. So getting to know Jesus is getting to know God.

The first step to heaven is getting to know God. This requires a relationship which is nourished by spending time with him in prayer and receiving the Sacraments.

Another way to get to know Christ is by contemplating the crucifix. This is where St. Bonaventure said he got everything he knew about Christ.

This meditation is aimed at new Catholics like me. Because I am new I could be mistaken about something. But I hope I said something you can benefit from.

I like what you wrote. You are on the right track. You have faith and faith is a gift. Do not be discouraged in your journey, many will try to deceive you in many ways, just keep your focus on God.

These are encouraging words. Prayers for you and your family

It is a true, beautiful and useful meditation.

Do not be discouraged: often a discussion around an idle subtlety is enormously successful, and instead what goes to the heart of our faith is ignored.

Thanks for sharing, and just some further thoughts to meditate on…

Here is a childlike and yet profound way to test the power of the greatest commandments; when looking for a purpose for the creation of the universe and life.

Before the creation of the universe began, imagine God the Father, Son and Holy spirit looking out into the vast empty void of space. They are thinking, we have the power to create anything we want, what is the greatest good thing that we can create?

God could create all the stars and planets and be the supreme builder. He could create plants; and be the unsurpassed gardener. God could create the animal kingdom; and be the best farmer. God could create children in his own image and be the greatest father. Can God create anything greater than children in his own image?

God could love each and everyone of his children as he loves himself. Could God love us more than he loves himself?

Could there be any greater purpose for God to create the universe and life?

We cannot love God as we love ourselves, because that would bring God down to our level, so we have the greatest commandment to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. If God loves everyone as he loves himself, we are given the second greatest commandment to do likewise.

Just a collection of words to challenge the mind to think…

Yes! And the more we know God the more we love Him, fulfilling the Greatest Commandment, moving closer to the perfection that He created us for. And God created us to experience uncompromising, endless beatitude. That’s the target of His love for us; that’s the consequence of knowing Him

When Jesus spent his time on Earth, he would have lived by the greatest commandments, he could do nothing greater. But how did Jesus love all his neighbours as he loves himself? How did Jesus look at the man who was nailing him to the cross and love him as he loves himself?

We know that Jesus prayed forgave them Father. To forgive is a great thing to do; but to love someone as you love yourself seems so far above just forgiving them.

All the law of God hangs and depends on the greatest commandments.
