My mom went to a phychic today

Even after telling her it’s not something she should be doing.

Growing up I remember my mom telling us everything a phychic said had come true. Except we seemed to be waiting on one awful thing…she said my dad would die at 50. Can you imagine as a child having that kind of information? It was awful. I remember when my dad turned 50 there was a disappointment (? not the exact word I’m looking for) that the phychic was wrong. No one wanted my dad to die, but she had been right all the time. How could she get this wrong? YUCK!
I wish my mom would have kept that bit of info to herself.

Well, I just got a call from my mom that she went to see a phychic. She knows I don’t wanna hear it. She had to tell me that the phychic knows about me. ??? Uh, mom. You must have told her something! The phychic told my mom I would be pregnant by May. (After trying for almost four years I really don’t wanna hear it. Hey, May is next month. The woman must be crazy!)

So, I told my mom that I can predict something, too. :rolleyes: 😉 😛 The phychic will be wrong. I won’t have relations w/ my DH just to prove it. DH heard the conversation & jokingly got miffed saying he has been cut-off because of some phychic.

Now, I don’t wanna to give them the satisfaction of being right.
Then again I don’t want to hold off trying to prove them wrong.
I’ll have to hear about how the phychic predicted it…just like my last pregnancy.

Just had to vent a little. I would be thankful and all praise would go to God. I just don’t want being pregnant or not the focus now because of a phychic.
 
I’m glad you’re able to maintain a sense of humor about it all. When I was in my early twenties and not really attending any church at all I had friends who were into doing tarot, palm reading, etc. They would read each others’ cards and hands and be all excited because it made so much sense to them or whatever, but NO ONE could ever get a “good read” on me. All card readings were jumbled and confused. A friend of a friend tried to read my palm one night and said it was more than he could handle but that he knew someone who was really good who was going to be around the following day. That someone took one look at my hand then closed it and asked me out. I’ve often wondered what he thought he saw there. I’ve also often wondered if all the jumbled readings were divine interference, if God was jamming the psychic circuit to keep me from taking it too seriously.
 
If you want to be pregnant, I hope you will be soon 🙂

If and when you do conceive another child, tell your mom you believe it’s God’s plan. Who cares what she thinks. —KCT

I know exactly what you are saying. I have a few family members who go to psychics as well, and I’m the one that gets criticized by them for believing it is wrong. Like I have a holier than thou attitude, because I try to tell them it is wrong. Well, without my requesting the info, my one family member during a casual conversation happened to mention to me that my next child would be a boy. I wanted sooo bad for this psychic to be wrong, just for the sake of her being wrong. I prayed to God, to please let this psychic be wrong, only because this family member really believes in these things. Sure enough, she was wrong!! 😃
 
Whilst I could never imagine going to see a psychic (or get tarot cards read, etc), I’ve come across situations where I’m convinced that it ain’t necessarily all nonsense. eg. I had a masseuse once tell me things about my life, and how I tended to handle certain emotional situations, and what I should do instead…and she was 100% correct! I’ve also had personal experiences of, say, thinking about somebody I hadn’t seen or thought-of in years, and then suddenly they telephone…or a year-and-a-bit ago when I started telling my wife all about my grandmother (she’d never met her, as I hadn’t seen or talked to her in 10 years) and getting all emotional, then hearing the next morning that she’d died that day. This doesn’t compare with “your lucky numbers are 10 and 14, and you will meet a tall dark handsome stranger” from a crackpot with a crystal ball. This is just extraordinary insights that you could call “psychic”. I can’t believe this is “evil”. Can it be something perfectly Godly? Didn’t Joan of Arc have what you might call “psychic” moments?

Prophecy is a gift given by the Holy Spirit (See 1 Cor 14) This gift is freely bestowed by God because he cares about his children, and sometimes he deems it important.

Seeking out the future, through occult means as tarot cards, crystal balls, etc is attempting to disregard God. Demons, having a lot better understanding of the physical world than we do can make predictions based on their knowledge. These predictions are much different than the God given gift of prophecy. These evil spirits chiefly want to lead you from God. If you depend on a fortune teller more than you trust God they’ve done they’re job. Sometimes they’ll give you lots of thruths, just to sell you one lie. They can line up 1000 right facts to feed you one wrong thing. They can line up 1000 right facts just to get you to not trust God.

Often times they could care less about whatever hack just bought a glass ball in order to con strangers out of their living. Many times these charlatans also ‘predict’ vague things, “I have a feeling you are in turmoil.”
 
there was a great Touched by an Angel episode about several friends horsing around with tarot cards, telling fortunes, what seemed to be a harmless game, yet the people got caught up in the predictions that became self-fulfilling prophecies, and actually invited the evils they were fearing into their lives. The devil, prowling like a roaring lion, was very much present.
 
I think psychics in some ways claim to have a power that only God has. In this aspect, I consider them dangerous to themselves and others.
 
If you really want a baby, you need to give the psychic every opportunity to be right.

What is more important, you being right or having a BABY? 😉
 
While I think you are correct in telling mom that she shouldn’t go to a psychic…I wouldn’t stop trying just to prove her wrong. There are genuine people that are gifted this way, but they don’t usually charge money for their services. My ex, who incidently believed himself to be so blessed, did tarot readings and psychic readings for people, used to tell me a real psychic would never charge for their services as the gift did not come from themselves. Little did I know that he believed they came from one of his 435 or some such odd pagan Gods that he believed in. Funny thing is, my dad was very gifted but hid it because he thought of it as a curse to know things, and he absolutely hated my ex. Leads me to believe that it is possible to have gifts of the Holy Spirit , but it may just be possible to have similar gifts from Satan too. Any thoughts on this?

I think we should have faith that we can have many amazing gifts such as healing and prophecying. However, I don’t consider the claim to predict a specific person’s future a gift because it may psychologically limit a person’s thinking to the prediction when in fact by there gift of free will they may have more and better options. It is not a gift if it interferes with our other gifts. “By their fruits you shall know them.”

I do believe in prophecy based on wisdom and other gifts of the Holy Spirit. For example, the Pope in the 1930s I believe, predicted that if artificial conrtraception became used, there would be many marriage divisions. This was a prophecy. Look at the world today.
 
whats wrong with psychics. sure, the freaky thing about yuor dad is disturbing, but maybe it was symbolic, like his faith died, or his passion for footie died. if you think there so wrong, why are you so het up about it! by the way i think psychics are cool when they ain’t psycos. :cool:

Whenever a person goes to a pshchic, plays a ouji (Sp?) board or with tarot cards, or even reads an astrology prediction in the newspaper, he/she is opening a door and inviting Satan and his demons into his/her life. This will never be for the good and, at worst, can lead to absolute disaster.

Every morning, I pass a restaurant where tarot readings are part of the ‘entertainment’ for the patrons. I make the Sign of the Cross and say a prayer that this practice will soon end. This is NOT a little matter!

I couldn’t agree with you more Curtiss! My ex used to freak me out with this stuff…I actually had to have it put in the court papers that he couldn’t do this in front of the children when they went to see him…but then again, I had to get the courts to require him to bathe the children and feed them too…
