Hello all, my sister has a home computer in my nephew’s room. Now all of these nephews and neices of mine were raised very religious and I care for their happiness etc as if they were my own. My sister has told me that she has been worried because another nephew of ours also comes over once in a while (they are all cousins) and they go straight to the computer. Now, yesterday as I was visiting my sister, I wanted to check my email, but I could not sign on. Anyway, I went to control panel, and did a history check: lo and behold!!! it said that last week someone had been viewing adult websites. I was saddened and prayed that it was not my dear nephew who had even been an altar boy for a while. Well, I saddly told my sister to come over to the room, that I needed to show her something I found on their computer. She did, and I told her that their was what there was, and it was viewed last week. She asked, then did further search, and she SAW for herself. She called my brother-in-law over (her husband) and we all were there dismayed in semi -shock. We tried to figure out who was there last week, and besides another visiting nephew, only their son would have used that computer. I left it at that but fulfilled my obligation of telling my sister etc. They would have never known, as per they hardly go to the computer.
Now, this was on my mind al night and I was wondering if I did the right thing by telling my sister, as per I did not want to get my nephew in trouble. I tried to think WHY??? Is it peer presure, why?
My sister has asked me not to tell our mom (the nephew’s grandma) as per she would go berserk in sadness.
What happened to the innocense of these nephew’s and neices of mine??? It seems the other day they were born. I love my family much as worry for these nephews and neices the oldest of which are both 18.
Any advice here? Did I do the right thing by telling my sister? I wonder and worry. maybe I am just a worrier.

You did the right thing to tell your sister about what you found. If you didn’t tell her this would have continued making it harder for your nephew to free himself from this sin. Looking at pornography can be very dangerous because it can become very addictive as well as possibly leading to other sins. Often times teenagers may also look at pornography out of curiosity or for pleasure. Be at peace with what you did…it was the right thing. Just pray for your nephew.

Misericordie, this sin is quite common among youth and even adults; it is quite normal. Have the parents explain to the boys that pornography is evil and to view it is a mortal sin. Hopefully they will remember it in their next confession.
The boy should NOT have a computer in his own room. The parents should move the computer to another area of the house where the family is around, and he won’t be able to act on the temptation to view internet pornography.
I don’t see any reason why the grandmother should be told about this. Tell the grandmother and the entire family will know about it within a week, at least in my family. Keep it private and spare the boys some humiliation.

God knows I love them all very much, especially this one: I was thinking how quiet he was as a baby and always very mature.🙂

Yes, very true. Thanks.

You did the right thing,
but now it is in the hands of that family.
It is a very, very wonderful teaching opportunity for them.
Pray that they handle it with love and conviction.
Then make sure your nephew knows you still love him, and be there for your sister if she needs to talk about it with someone.

The boy will be ok, thanks to you and his parents. This is a very, very messed up world we live in.

Remember Augustine? “Make me a saint, but not yet.” Just pray as Monica prayed. More good has been done by prayer than by worry.

^ It’s a Christian anti-porn site. There’s a program on it that you can download, it allows a friend or relative to recieve updates every two or four weeks-- an email with every questionable website that that computer has been on.

now where i agree that looking at porn is bad for you they may not have looked at it on purpose! in the high tec world of the internet there are many web site with perfectly heathly sujects but some of these will generate loads of pop up websites of a less heathly nature. i had this problem when trying to find a new garden bench on the internet i was looking at benches then all of a sudden porn over the place!!!
where im not try to find an excuss for your nehews but maybe thats what happened and they were to emarresed to tell you!
any way just an idea
