Do some general reading about the saints, and see which one (based on his/her life story or what he/she is the patron of) resonates with you.

Since you like to read, I’d say St. Francis de Sales. He wrote his Introduction to the Devout Life in1610, and it hasn’t been out of print since.

During his years as bishop, de Sales acquired a reputation as a spellbinding preacher and something of an ascetic. His motto was, “He who preaches with love, preaches effectively.” His goodness, patience and mildness became proverbial.[5]

These last qualities come through in Sales’ books, the most famous of which was Introduction to the Devout Life , which – unusual for the time – was written specially for laypeople. In it he counseled charity over penance as a means of progressing in the spiritual life.

You can read more about him on Wikipedia.

Hello,

Your patron saint doesn’t necessarily have to correspond to a set of criteria, such as you have provided in your OP.

There are several ways in which we “pick” a patron saint. You can research which saint’s feast day falls on your birthday, for instance, or which saint is the designated patron saint for your country, ethnic group, profession, etc…

But you don’t absolutely have to pick a patron saint based on these criteria.

Which saint do you feel the most affinity for? He or she might not have anything in common with you, other than that you feel a certain closeness to them. Treat your patron saint like a friend; which saint would you turn most readily to in times of trouble?

You may need to do a bit of research, or consider saints you already know. Don’t “force” a relationship with a certain saint because you think that you should pick one based on sharing certain characteristics. Criteria exist as suggestions to help you choose a patron saint, not as absolutes that you must use to choose.

This is how I discovered Saint Elizabeth of Portugal (Aragon). Well-picked for a first time hitting the button.

In any event, @Tradcat1 You might not need to worry so much of your own Patron Saint…find some causes you like and reverse search Saints that fit.

That said (and you’ll want to research any of these):
Saint Jordi (Saint George) - Patron Saint of Books (according to google, have not found verification elsewhere)
Saint Joseph Vaz - Patron Saint of Sri Lanka
Saint Augustine - Patron Saint of a number of things, including Theologians
Saint Thomas Aquinas - Patron Saint of Theologians

Hopefully this helps!

Same here. I needed to pick a saint for somebody very dear and I got a random saint I didn’t know existed and it was just the perfect fit !!
