Hi everybody. I am a relatively young catholic convert from a very anticatholic evangelical free protestant family. I converted on January or February of this year while I still studied at school. The biggest problem is that my father is a pastor and my family is aggressively anticatholic. Me, being only a teen, get the hard part of the stick and I am forced to do and accept thing which not only go against the Church’s teachings, but even go against the Bible. I have really tried to help them convert, but they really believe that it is God’s Holy Spirit guiding them to their ‘‘Truth’’.

I have seen many videos on ‘‘how to get started on Catholicism’’. They only problem is that this information, although helpful for anyone, is not really helpful for a teen such as myself. For most converts, whom are adults, if they disagree with their protestant family, they just move to another place or go to their own private home. For me, I can’t go anywhere, specially since the quarantine. I have tried to reason with them, presenting only Bible verses, even those that refute Sola Scriptura, but I have not achieved anything. I keep paying my Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, but at times I simply feel hopeless and lonely.

The situation has escalated to the point on which I almost left my home to go to the nearest convent (which is at the corner, since the country where I live in is very Catholic). I can’t even make the sign of the Cross without my parents or my brother criticizing me about how unbiblical Catholicism is and that I need to ‘‘receive AGAIN Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior’’. I have even been prohibited from starting a Bible study with my friends at school, just because it involved Catholicism.

I really don’t know what to do and at times I just feel completely abandoned by God, even though I know that He is the only one who will always be with me. I have tried and tried, prayed and prayed, but it seems to be of no avail. There are times in which I wonder why. Why didn’t God just put me in a Catholic family. Even though my family was originally Catholic, my great-grandmother decided it was God’s will to destroy the statues of Saints.

I would like for all of you to pray for my family’s conversion and for my faith. I have honestly run out of ideas and hope. PLEASE, PRAY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. x10

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Why didn’t God just put me in a Catholic family.
Hey at least they’re Christian. Atheists and others please don’t take offense to that.

Some of us were not raised in a serious Christian home.
Some of us might see others with mothers with marked up bibles or an old rosary and don’t have that.

Pray for your family and ask St Monica to pray for them too.

Remember that it might take years if ever in this life for their conversion.

For all we know they might not become Catholic (heart and knowledge wise) until death.

Have you tried to calmly speak to your family to agree to disagree about the different beliefs?

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

I pray that our Heavenly Father provides a boost of guidance and other blessings for you and your family.

(If your family is unreceptive to you proselytizing to them at this time, consider giving them some leeway and just setting a quiet(er) example for them.)

@JoshuaHamm2004194 This is certainly a unique situation to be in and I can assure you that I will pray for you and your family.

Hopefully you can find a little comfort in what I write - I was there too, except I come from an agnostic / atheist family. The shock when I “came out” as wanting to be a catholic! My funniest quote I can re-call from them was “Why do you want to be Catholic, I thought you were meant to be a Christian?!” The joys in then trying to explain to them that being a Catholic is being a Christian was fun!

There is an immense beauty to Catholicism which most Protestants do not see - I have personally found that they also focus on the negative side of things, such as birth control and other things around “lust”, etc, etc… But if anything, I feel for people that cling to Sola Scripture as there is so much more to it all (including the Blessed Sacraments, Sacramentals and all the traditions that come with Catholicism).

Your family should respect your views, as you have with theirs. I will probably advise you to just focus on findings your own journey and then once you a happy with where you are then you can try and convert – but again, only try this when you feel happy to do so.

If a conversation ever arises and you find yourself being challenged, try not to rise to their challenges and just politely advise that this is the journey you are taking and that you ask they respectively allow you to do so.

You will get there and never lose your faith! 📿 🙏 😃

I’m so sorry to hear that. It was a little bit difficult for me too, in the beginning, although it wasn’t my family (parents) but friends that were either atheists or anti Christians or even if it was a Christian , it would be either a Protestant or something else – that created the problem. I was so tired of having to explain and convince that I almost thought about giving it (Catholicism) up.

Now, I don’t try to make them “accept” me. If God has accepted me, that’s enough. I pray for them all the time but I’ve completely stopped playing that “puppy” that’s always eager to please everyone. I don’t hate them; I’m just tired. So, you’re not alone in this.

I will pray for you, and keep going!!! 🙏🙏

Added – but since, you can’t ignore or abandon your family for your faith, the only one thing I can advise is to keep praying. This could be your “test” !!! I hope there’s not any verbal spats going on. Stay strong!!

Yes, but they still believe that Protestantism is inspired by the Holy Spirit and that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon.

Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Pray for us sinners
Now And at the Hour of Our Death.

Amen.

Jesus, Help Me

In every need let me come
to You with humble trust, saying:
Jesus, help me!

In all my doubts, perplexities,
and temptations:
Jesus, help me!

In hours of loneliness,
weariness, and trials:
Jesus, help me!

In the failure of my plans and
hopes, in disappointments,
troubles, and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!

When others fail me,
and Your grace alone
can assist me:
Jesus, help me!

When I throw myself
on Your tender Love
as a Father and Savior:
Jesus, help me!

When my heart is cast
down by failure, at seeing
no good come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!

When I feel impatient,
and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!

When I am ill, and my head and
hands cannot work and I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness,
falls, and shortcomings of every kind:
Jesus, help me and never forsake me. – Amen
