I have a protestant friend Vernon Singleton who I have been wishing to come into the church, but he is pretty staunch in his anti-catholicism.
For example, he asked me where in the Catechism does it directly instruct the Catholics not to worship Mary. So I asked him where in the bible does it explicitly instruct anyone not to specifically worship Mary. I told him the Catechism is comprised mostly of quotes from the bible. He didn’t like that. He thought the catechism taught that anyone who doesn’t protect the pope from physical harm would be automatically excommunicated!!!

Well, first I’d say that no one should ever worship the Blessed Mother! Worship is reserved only for God.

Secondly ask him where in the Catechism does it say we need to worship Mary? Reframe the question, he is trying to get you to put Mary on the same level as God. Ask him to point out one Catholic who ever taught that we must worship the Blessed Mother! He will find many with total devotion, with absolute love, and who wish to have the Blessed Mother guide them to Jesus, but none who worship her.

Thirdly ask him to take a good look at the Nicene Creed, that is what we believe, that is our faith in one place, simple, sweet and to the point. If he can accept the Creed then he can accept the Catholic faith. There is no dogma that is contrary to what is in the Nicene Creed.

Sorry, I just remembered this was a prayer intention! Lol…

OP you need to watch your capitalisation please.Using a small p has an entirely different shade of meannig as it does saying catholic without capitalising

Additionally, I humbly ask in Jesus’ name that if it be God’s will that Vernon not be converted at this time, that both Vernon and his friend who posted will nevertheless remain friends and love and accept each other as they are, and that the OP will continue to grow in love and deepen his faith in order to set a good example of Catholicism for Vernon and others, in hopes they will choose to follow Jesus through His One True Church.

As to the question of where does the Bible forbid the worship of Mary, I believe THE FIRST COMMANDMENT expressly covers that question.

Next time I will use only first names, sorry for that…
My friend is taking my daughter to the Baptist summer camp.

This maybe a good thing since my daughter asked me to get her a book:
“Bored Again Catholic” which if we can read it together may help pull my daughter back to a faith.
She is confused since one of her parents, me, converted, and her mother is angry about that.

So please pray that the Lord will use this for his purposes.
