My quiet spaces

QUESTION:
Do you have a quiet place and time to pray where you can shut out the world and just be with God?
If you don’t, how can you make one? This is important, and will build your joy in the Lord.

Sort of. My bedroom is where I have my kneeler, and some icons all over the walls. The kneeler is ideal for things like Psalm 51. I may do up a list of my icons if there is any interest.

But I do have weak knees, and once had a case of “housemaid’s knees”, so I try to avoid prolonged times with the kneeler.

The second bedroom, where Pumpkin has his home, has also been set up as a quiet place. Here I have my easy chair, with more icons going up on the wall. This room is where I do most of my devotions and readings.

The main thing to remember is that I get home from work at midnight, and it takes me 2-3 hours to unwind from the stress of working at the USPS. Disgruntled Postal Workers and all that.

So I spend 1-2 hours in the bedroom, with time out for Pumpkin (“pet me, adore me!”). The apartment complex is quiet at these hours.

I live by myself; therefore, I do have quiet spaces for myself. However, I sometimes want to stay on the balcony to pray and at the same time listening to the birds chirping. The combination gives me a sense of peace. If you learn to include your surrounding to be part of your prayer, you will be able to pray anywhere.
