I have a 14 yr old son who is interested in becoming a priest.

I once heard that if one thinks he may have a calling, presume you do. If the calling isn’t there, it will become very apparent.

We encourage him and try to give him as much exposure to the teachings of the Church as possible by taking him to hear Catholic speakers and apologists when they are in our area.

Is there a systematic approach to helping him find his way?

The only “approach” is to support him and to pray for him…the Holy Spirit will do the rest.👍

Well, there are still a few minor (high school) seminaries around.

But assuming that isn’t an option, it would be a good idea to slowly but surely expose him to service/ministry opportunities, maybe helping out at the rectory, learning particulars on the faith/philosophy/theology/biblical/sacraments. Maybe a little Latin/Greek, even. Assisting as a server at Mass or even a lector/Eucharistic minister could be cool. Learning about the liturgy. A retreat or writing reflections on certain aspects of life and discernment could be helpful. Now, not all at once, mind you! But over time, these could be things which might help him grow in a path of holiness and interest of those things which are related to ministry. I might recommend asking him to consider choosing a priest mentor who he admires that could help him along.

Thanks folks.

We are trying to get him to Rome this spring with the help of his generous grandparents.

He is really excited about going.
