My soul and livelihood belong to my job

Your soul does not belong to your job - it belongs to God. Your intellect and the talents God gave you are needed for your job. Your talents are a gift from God. Why did He grant you that gift? The answer to that may bring you closer to God.
 
Hi d_floyd77. I’m so glad you posted this thread. I used to be like that until I came down with depression, which has been a life lesson to me, that doesn’t mean I’m glad to have it. I ended up “dying” to my career interests, and now I work to have an income to pay my mortgage and bills. With more and more time, I “die” to my career interests and am more concerned about whom I am surrounded by, and that’s where I find peace. Everything that has been discussed in this thread are almost the very words I have spoken to myself in my mind. There is time for God every minute of the day such as when you wake up, while your getting ready to leave your home, while your driving, having a meal alone and especially right before you fall asleep. Try to envision his face or say “Good Morning God”. I’ve even tell God thanks for allowing people to make such good food. I hope you take at least one moment to think about him even when you pick up the phone, think about how the phone came about to being invented.

It all comes down to whether you work to live or live to work. After many years of finding out that my loyalty was on a one-way street, I began to treat myself as a business with the employers being my ‘clients’. That makes for a much healthier perspective, as you weigh the cost/benefits of what you do against the larger goals of your life.
