okay, I want to know if this is wrong. My son (when he was born) got presents from my husbands family. A lot of this was jewelry. He got 2 chains (necklaces) and 2 bracelets. Now, we did sell some of it - a chain and a bracelet because the bracelet was way to small and the chain was destroyed by ds. So, while gold prices are up, we got rid of those. Now, ds got a platinum chain which is the snake chain design - very delicate. My son has worn is a couple of times and it has so many kinks in it. It is a short chain. Anyway, he obviously can’t wear it now because he will ruin it and when he gets older I know he will not want to wear a necklace - how many boys want to wear a necklace? . And also, I think by the time he is able to take care of such a delicate chain he won’t even be able to wrap it around his neck (as I said, it’s a small chain).

So, I have been wearing it. I mean, what do you think? Am I doing wrong by kind of taking over this chain?

These were gifts to your child. I would suggest putting them back, he can pass them on to his own children some day.

Necklaces for men go in and out of style, but if he is getting bigger, won’t the necklace be a bracelet one day? Just keep it away from him during the altering stage, if he has one, when people mutilate their prized possessions to try to improve them.

I’d save it for him…who knows? Someday he may want to give it to his sweetheart. 🙂

You’re making a lot of assumptions. Many men like jewelry and wear it.

Perhaps you should ask the giver of the chain what they would like you to do with it. Tell them, “Oh, he’s so rough, you know how boys are, and he has already kinked it up a couple of times. Do you want me to let him keep it, even though it might get ruined, or should I keep it safe for him until later, or would you like it back so you can get him something he won’t wreck?” I mean, it’s their money that got spent… and they may not care if he wrecks it. They may have given it to him knowing that was very possible. But they wanted him to have a gift, and they have the right to know that their gift is with the person they gave it to.

Even if it won’t fit around his neck when he is older, he might be able to double it around his wrist as a bracelet.
