Where does the Church fit in?
How many Saints needed an outside interpreter? How many used the services of non-Catholic interpreters, especially those tied to less-than-noble men like Benny Hinn?
This “apparently” is based on what exactly? There’s nothing in the Bible that shows the 12 Apostles going around and interpreting dreams of everyone they encounter, they do preach, teach, heal and baptize instead.
Every Saint needed an interpreter and it was usually a combination of their religious formation and the Holy Spirit or from an angel. Joseph interpreted dreams from his wisdom and his relationship with God. Daniel was given the dream and it’s interpretation in a dream by an angel. He also interpreted the dreams of two of the Kings servants. Don Bosco received the interpretation from his Guardian Angel.
John Paul Jackson did an interview with Benny Hin, he has done a great deal of interviews with many different people. I don’t know what your issue is with Benny Him as I don’t really know much about him though.
You don’t have to be catholic to have a dream, a vision, or be gifted by god. Other people have attacked John Paul Jackson without even really understanding what he was doing or teaching, which smack of the arrogance and bigotry of their own attitudes.
Do you think the Catholic Church is the only church that God blesses? What a narrow and ignorant view of god and his generosity.
The bible talks about the various gifts of the Holy Spirit, council, wisdom, healing, etc.
The apostles had the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in full measure. They could interpret dreams, however they did not need to because God revealed to them the hearts of the people and their true intentions. God speaks to those of a higher degree of blessing more directly. Someone commented about my saying there were different types of prophets as if that was a heresy, again they don’t understand gods walk with people or the bible. If they did they would know that the bible said that to Moses god spoke directly as a friend but the implication was that to others indirectly through dreams and visions.
I am not surprised that Catholics seems so confused on these issues. That is because the church ignores these issues. It has a rich tradition of Saints with great insights but does not focus itself on those insights but on the teachings and traditions it holds as canon.
I think part of your problem is that you think God changed. Not at all. God does not change. He speaks and works through people today just as he did in the old and New Testament. Not all are apostles however, some are prophets, some teach, and some do great works. Different works and parts but still one body of Christ. How many priests do you know today can raise he dead, speak in tongues, translocate, translate, heal the sick, know the hearts and thoughts of people? Not many. But actually there have been some in the past and no doubt today as well. And guess what, I bet god has blessed some non catholic pastors with the very same. I have been lucky to meet many holy and blessed non catholic people. In my case Anglicans and Baptists in particular.
And how many catholic interpreters do you know? Actually none which I find a little sad. I think it is a rare and lost art. I think it is only for the mature, and not those who are well instructed on the bible, tradition, and a long walk with God. I think it is something that can be learned, but reserved for people with discernment and study in psychological/emotional/spiritual issues.
You know maybe it is because the church is so wary of some gifts of god that he has chosen to give it to other denominations who are more open to the miraculous.
The truth is religious and lay people have experienced countless powerful miracles, but they keep it to themselves often, probably to avoid the scandal and scrutiny of those whom have not experienced these things or to avoid rejection and condemnation.
Perhaps because of humility.
Someone quoted that those who do not follow after dreams are blessed because many who did did so in error. Again probably a reflection of the interpreter. I have spent many years looking for someone who could interpret dreams. I didn’t find it in the psychological or psychiatric world. I never even bothered with the new agers, poor souls, may God enlighten and richly bless them with the gift of conversion. I first found the meaningful dream and their interpretation from A book on don bosco. Then John Paul Jackson was the next person god led me to for understanding of biblical issues relating to dreams. I am open to any other catholic sources if there are any.
