As some of you know I have been discerning my vocation to the religious life. I know I have posted that I was looking at St. Leo Abby in Florida. I currently live in Maine and to be honest I don’t like the winter weather. Well, I have been having a lot of trouble getting in touch with anyone there. When I finally did get in touch with someone they refered me to another Abbey closer to where I live. But they said they would send me some info in the mail and they said they would take me even though I was from Maine.

Well, I never did get anything in the mail and I found another Abbey that is in Massachusetts in Hingham which is on the coast just south of Boston. I contacted someone there and they were very receptive and got back to me almost immediately. I am going on a retreat there November 4th and meeting with the vocations director. Even though I would prefer a warm climate maybe there is a reason God is opening the door more at Glastonbury. The weather is a bit milder than it is in Maine so at least that’s a good thing. I know God has a reason for everything and there must be a reason he is calling me to Glastonbury. I will know more after my retreat but I realize it’s more important to listen to what God wants rather than what I want.

From what I see Glastonbury sounds like a real nice place… glastonburyabbey.org/

This is a site that helps. It will send info on places across the country. It helps arrainge visits and let’s you spend time before you make a decision. There are monasteries and communities I never in my wildest dream existed.

I’m not sure you should be discerning your vocation based on the weather!!

I know that sounds shallow but, the first things I was asked by vocations placement were the part of the country I would feel most comfortable and climate I enjoy. There is such a shortage of Religious that they go out of their way to make it easy.
