I work in an animation studio and have a work colleague who lives a strange life that is hard for me to understand.

While most of us at my work are artists who do animation and so on, he does all the computer work for the company. He basically sits in his office all day in front of his computer, doesn’t go to lunch with the others, goes home and sits in front of his computer 24/7. He never goes out, never meets friends and has no interests except for computer stuff and watching television.

Most people feel sorry for him including me but he seems to pretend that his way of life is the only way to go and sort of mocks me for instance because I like going out to eat or do sports etc.
He then says that sports is for losers or something like that.
I still chat with him per messenger because despite of that he normally is friendly and polite.

There was an incident though that really bugged me. I happen to have a picture of Jesus in my office(Jesus I trust in you) but don’t talk to anybody about my faith. He once spotted the picture and over the next few days he started to send me all these links of websites that “prove” there is no God. He then tried to start discussions with me about how ridiculous faith is and so on. I didn’t want to get into any discussion with him and didn’t mention my faith once(his reaction was all based on the picture he saw).

That was a couple of months ago. Today I mentioned that I’m reading a good book(Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton) that I’m really enjoying. He probably googled it and immediately started sending me quotes that make faith seem ridiculous. I asked him what the reason is for sending me those quotes. He wrote “Ha, now we’re even”. I wrote that all I said is I’m enjoying this book without suggesting he should read it.

Anyway, he seems to go out of his way to offend my faith. I would like to say “Look in the mirror. Where has your atheist life style got you? You live by yourself without friends and are addicted to your computer, think about it”, Then again I don’t want insult him or force my faith on others because I have enough of my own issues I need to resolve.
In general I feel it’s strange how Atheists seem to really go out of their way to mock, humiliate or “convince” people that they are right.
This happens a lot. What is the best way to deal with these situations?

I had a similar problem with a work colleague. He was very anti-Catholic and always talking to me about it. He gave me a few books to read, such as The DaVinci code amongst others. I always just humoured him. But it seemed to me he was trying to convince himself as much as he was trying to convince me. Granted this guy sounds more aggressive but I would feel somewhat sorry for him, I would not take him seriuosly. He does sound like a sad individual who is in need of help and prayers.

Normally the guy is polite, friendly, shy, isn’t the gossip type and isn’t an aggressive guy who likes confrontation.
That’s why I find it especially annoying that he sparks up his anti-Christian discussions and mocks me with no respect at all.
It’s almost like he feels like it’s a personal insult to him that people believe in God and he needs to dish out at them.
I asked him if he feels he is a 100% atheist. He said that he doubts that anyone could ever convince him of the opposite.🤷

Why would a real atheist publically declare himself as an atheist? Atheists really get mad when I ask them guess why?
… it seemed to me he was trying to convince himself as much as he was trying to convince me. …
