Mystical Espousal

Hi, I won’t go into much details, but I feel that I am called to mystical marriage or espousal to God. I don’t feel called as a religious. I am single but not a virgin so I can not be a consecrated virgin. God has given me signs of His love for me but has not “asked me” in the sense of a vision or ceremony or an invisible ring. I have made my desire known to Him and await His response. I am so in love with God. I am wondering how do I know when to commit to Him, do I take a vow of Chasity or just declare my desire to be His spouse? Do I wait for a sign from heaven? Do I buy a ring and wear it as a sign between Him and I? Just wondering if anyone has any advice? thank you and God bless! I also have a spiritual director and will talk with him about this.

What you ask about is extremely personal and the responses could vary depending upon the individual in question - in other words, what is appropriate for you may not be for someone else. It’s nearly impossible to generalize answers to your questions in any meaningful way.

I recommend the writings of Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P. He was a teacher of St. Pope John Paul II and supervised his doctoral thesis. He is the greatest theologian of the past century.

Much of his writings are at Christian Perfection info. Look it up on Google. Forum won’t let me link it.

He writes extensively on the subject of the transforming union (which is what you are seeking).
