I was in a discussion with some friends of mine about different translations of the Bible and it was mentioned that the NAB had poor footnotes; we agreed but were unable to determine any specifics. I was wondering if any of you knew of any specific examples of bad (or weak) theology in NAB footnotes?

Okay, I am no expert on which version of the Bible is and is not “the best.” However, I personally like to have several around (including the NAB) so I can compare them and their footnotes available. If I had to choose just one (thankfully I do not) it would not be the NAB. The site below is one person’s opinions why the NAB is not a good version to use, though as I said, I personally like and use several versions.

Footnotes about the destruction of Sodom (Genesis 19) are particularily… weird.

I stopped using the NAB years ago. At one time I had compiled a mental list of strange footnotes, but I can’t recall them anymore.

There are several long and interesting threads on this already. Use the search feature and you won’t be disappointed.

Correct me if I’m wrong…am I hearing in these threads that there isn’t anything wrong with the translation, it’s just the notes that are bad?

Great article.

The Lieralisers who wrote those notes for the NAB would destroy all belief in the bible as a sacred and inspired text. And there is similar stuff in the Jerusalem Bible.
