Yah… thats funny… And we laughed at the song “encarnation” hahaha! Well i just hope they asked permission from the Friar Minors before they used their habit and the franciscan images and the church before making this film.

My girl and I watched it because it was a two for one at a car drive-in theater. We wanted to see Cars, but Nacho played later. I enjoyed both of them. My favorite part on Nacho Libre was when he was going off into the “wilderness” because everyone rejected him for his wrongdoing. It showed him doing all these things to survive out in the “wilderness” like cut a cactus for water. Then as he sitting there his friends call him over who are standing right outside the village. He really was a few yards from the village…roflmbo…hahahaa.

I LOVED that movie, and I saw it about 5 times…I should get a hobby.
I especially liked how they introduced “Sister Encarnacion, of the Immacualte Heart Sisters of the Mountians of Guadalupe”. My dad and I were laughing so much at that, but most of the people didn’t get it. It isn’t the film I would use to introduce people to Catholicism or monasticism, but it is still funny and I love it.

Funny movie worth watching harmless and unoffensive entertainment. Now as for Jack Black’s upcoming movie “Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny”…the easily offended should stay away. I’ll be there with “horns on”

Actually I found a few things quite offensive. Ripping the beads off of a rosary, and the one that really ticked me off was right before the scene where the candle burns him, Jack Black walks up holding a candle in his right hand and makes the sign of the cross with his left hand.
It was somewhat dull, but then again I’m not one for this sort of humor… though it does have some good moments, and I think the actress who plays Sister Encarnation is perhaps the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen

Irreverence is okay? Humor was tasteless especially when Nacho pulls Sister Encarnacion toward him for protection from advancing tough guys on a date. Ugggghhhhhhh! :bigyikes: This isn’t even art it’s terrible. Nacho disobeying his order by secretely wrestling while hitting on a pretty young nun? Padre Pio would have had a heart attack if he saw this. I pity those who enjoy this movie. The devil inspired this movie IMHO.

Sure Bones, there were some displays of human weakness…but there were also moments displaying great loyalty, chastity, of serving others, and a perseverance towards an unselfish goal. Certainly, these are virtues not often seen together in one modern film…and nothing the Evil one would want to promote.
May we be found worthy to remain at His feast…

Haven’t seen Nacho Libre but there was an actual Friar in Mexico who secretly wrestled to raise money for an orphanage. He tried to wrestle at one point but no one wanted to wrestle against a priest so he did it in secret. He kept his mask on throughout his whole career(it was a disgrace to lose your mask in a Mexican wrestling match) and was know as “Fray Tormenta” or Friar Storm. None of the people he wrestled against knew he was an actual priest till one day he was saying Mass and a fellow wrestler recognized his voice. Some of the children in his orphanage grew up to be either doctors or lawyers and are returning to help their old community.

I would not watch that movie if my life depended on it. It is extremly offensive, and disgusting. Frankly, I am appaled at any “Catholic” who would see such a movie. How can you have faith and pride in your priests if they are acting like that? And supporting a movie that portrays the LORD’s priests like that is simply wrong.

I watched it on a flight as I had no choice. After about 10min i turned the headphones to the music stations and actually enjoyed the movie more lol. The story line was so simple you didnt need to hear it to figure it out and Jack Blacks physical comedy is much better then when he speaks imho.

Jack Black’s character wasn’t a priest, I think he was still a novice. In the end, he did the right thing, by honoring the heirarchy and his order, taking care of the children, and denying his temporary desire (love of Sister Encarnacion) for the holiness and purity he was called to live.

Like I said I have not seen it or shown in support for or against the movie but I had just noticed it was similar to Fray Tormenta’s story
