LOL! really funny because i am going through the same thing. My name is identical to my fathers with only the suffix JR at the end of my surname. I have been going through so much problems with different agencies and customs when i travel abroad. So, i am changing my surname to my dads confirmation name Patrick. I actually just filled out the legal documents right now and i saw this posts. Dejavu i guess 🙂

Women seem to have a lot less trouble changing their names than men. When I got married, my wife didn’t have to do much more than start using her married name. She had to notify the Social Security Administration, and that was that. There was a couple who got married and decided, for whatever reason, to use her last name instead of his. Social Security gave him no end of headaches, saying “You can’t do that.” He challenged their sex discrimination, but I don’t know how far he got. Wouldn’t doubt that he had to go to court and change his name.
