While other folks are obsessing about how many shopping days are left till Christmas, I find myself counting down to National Novel Writing Month!

www.nanowrimo.org

If anyone is interested in joining, follow the above link to register and let’s give each other some encouragement, either here or on the “Catholics Who Write” group page.

My first published novel, “End of the Road”, was conceived during NaNo of 2009 and I’m looking forward to see what comes up this year!

I’m also looking forward to Nanowrimo. The area I live in now has an active group of nanowrimo-ers, so I’m excited about some of the write-ins and such that are planned.

For those who are participating, what are you going to write? I’ve got a pretty good fantasy plot that I’ve been meaning to get around to for awhile.

I’ve heard of that before. Do people generally write a complete novel all in one month?

The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. Nowadays, very few novels are that short, but it’s a good start! It works out to about 1,667 words a day. Check out the website and see if it’s something you’d like to do. And if you know any young people who might be interested, there’s also one for teenagers!

I’m definitely going to participate! I’ve never actually suceeded before, but I might this time. I think I’ll be competing with a friend in some way. 🙂

Either way, this is going to be fun. 😃

Depends on how you define “success”! I haven’t “won” NaNo in several years (I think 2007 was the last time I crossed the 50K mark), HOWEVER… my 2009 attempt which topped out at a little over 30K was the rough draft of my first published novel! So you never know what might sprout from your efforts.

I’ve got two story ideas so far… one is for a romance, the other is book three in my mystery series. Let’s see what comes up and let’s see how far I can get!

Good luck! 👍

Thanks. ~1700 words a day. That’s about 5 pages, double-spaced, right? Tough, but not outside the realm of possibility. I’ll have to think about it. I have a lot of ideas (and half-formed ideas) that have been spinning around my head for years. I should try to actually put them on paper.

I’m going to try it, but I’m giving myself about a 5% chance of actually succeeding. 😦

After two disastrous years of getting very little actually written, last Saturday my daughter visits and mentions that November has already started. I don’t get what she means, but then she reminds me that it’s NaNoWriMo. Great. I’m already a day late, and haven’t even thought of a story.

But I have this line I came up with the previous day:
When a tree is damaged, it produces sap to protect itself. Sometimes the sap captures insects, like mosquitoes that still have dinosaur blood in them that scientists can use to resurrect the dinosaurs, leading to the extinction of humanity and thus eliminating the major predator of trees.

Nature is beautiful and frightening in its complex interactions.

So now I’m writing a dinosaur apocalypse. Was about 3000 words behind yesterday, but was all set to write the scene where the main character first encounters dinosaurs. Sat at the computer. wrote a few sentences, needed to look up how big a brachiosaurus is, and woke up a few hours later and decided to do the rest of the nights sleeping in bed. So now I’m even further behind.

Heavy sigh.

No plot, few characters, no climax or conclusion in mind. I’ve never done a NaNo quite so unprepared.

:doh2: I totally forgot and now I’m a week behind. Ah well…

Hey, guys, don’t feel bad! I’m sitting at 5000 words and I’m behind! But I’m going to keep going, even if I don’t hit 50K. Hey, I’ve already got 5000 more words than I did a week ago, right?? 😃

Yeah it’s the first time I heard about it (about 1-2 weeks ago) and decided to try doing it. Except that I’m busy writing a paper against ObamaCare (which I will share on here this weekend sometime) as well as have midterms to study for in the university so it’s been hard to keep up with my daily writing goals. I only have about 3000 words so far. But I’ll try harder starting this weekend I hope.
