WASHINGTON — The communications director of a major abortion-rights lobby group announced Friday that he was resigning immediately, following an announcement by the organization that it would pull an inflammatory TV ad about Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.
“I’ve been thinking for a while that I would most likely leave after the Supreme Court nomination fight was over,” wrote David E. Seldin, director of communications for NARAL Pro-Choice America, in a letter disclosing his decision to step down.
He said his last day with NARAL was Friday. . .
The commercial blasts Roberts, linking him with violent anti-abortion protesters because of the anti-abortion briefs he worked on as a government lawyer.
“We regret that many people have misconstrued our recent advertisement about Mr. Roberts’ record,” Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, wrote in a letter Thursday to Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who had urged the group to withdraw the ad.
At first, I found this piece of news encouraging, but after reading further, it’s clear that NARAL pulled the commercial and tossed someone out solely because of the controversy. Nobody “miscontrued” the ad they made except themselves - they still see nothing wrong with it and literally can’t comprehend any viewpoint that doesn’t find their lies acceptable.

Whether they really believe anyone misconstrued their ad, they lost. The ad was revealed as the pack of lies that it was, and NARAL was thoroughly embarassed. I don’t care what kind of face-saving they want to engage in; they hurt themselves far more than they hurt Judge Roberts. Seldin’s resignation (yeah, sure) proves it.

What’s to misconstrue? The ad was crystal clear to what it was trying to convey. They’re just trying to make everyone else rethink it, but there’s nothing to rethink. If they want to get their supposed point across then they’d better do it soon. They got some 'splainin to do.

What did we “misconstrued” about the ad. It was slander. They purposely lied to defame Judge Robert and his resignation will do nothing to change that. NARAL must be punished.

Possible next stops for David E. Seldin:
  • ACLU
  • People for the American Way
  • Visiting Scholar, Kennedy School of Government
  • Guest lecturer, Columbia School of Journalism
  • PBS
  • NPR
  • MoveOn.org
Or maybe now that he’s taken a bullet for the case, he will get a slot with George Soros’ Open Society Institution. Perhaps in charge of “Catholics for a Free Choice”–one of Soros’ favorite charities.

David:

Or, maybe he can take a job as another of George Soros’ assistants!
