In our local newspaper “The Wichita Eagle”, an article was run this morning from a AP source on a survey that says 3/4 of Americans say that missing Mass on Sundays is OK - among some other things. It notes that this survey was partly funded by the National Catholic Reporter. The little I have heard about National Catholic Reporter has not been very postitive in regards to orthodox Catholic teaching. Do you have any insight to NCReporter and what merit should be given to this type of survey?
 
Sorry I can’t answer you about the National Catholic Reporter, but I beliee this is the same article that stated that even though those surveyed/interviewed did not attend Sunday Masses, believe that there should be female priests, abortion is okay and other such beliefs, they still consider themselves to be good Catholics.

My jaw just dropped when I read that! :eek:
 
It’s always been my understanding:
National Catholic Reporter - Bad (leaning towards heresy)
National Catholic Register - Good (orthodox)

The “National Catholic Reporter” is not a particularly orthodox publication!

The problem with this study is that it, I presume, did not have a control group that was identified. Many people say they are “catholic.” But, what does that mean? I suspect many are cultural catholics, and little else.
