Albert Lin was the host of the show. https://www.nationalgeographic.org/find-explorers/albert-yu-min-lin

Visited various sites, spoke with archeologists. It seems they have found an ancient city from the bronze era that was incinerated with heat 4 times that of the sun. The only thing that could produce that kind of heat on earth, according to them, was that a meteor hit that exact spot.

I read about that, it sounds like a good candidate for Sodom and Gomorrah. It’s also interesting because, from what I recall, there was a deluge in the area from a super-salty sea, which also corresponds somewhat to the Biblical account.

It’s interesting to see them treat the Biblical narratives as real historical events, instead of just dismissing them outright.

This might be an interesting diversion. Maybe I’ll check it out.
As an armchair scientist (😁😆), a meteor hit that would destroy a city would probably have caused global climate upheavals from the dust clouds that would kick up.

It’s really both. I just ran across an exceptionally conservative Bible literalist magazine. It started with the author claiming to have visited some archaeological and a little coin that refereed to the house of David. The author went on to claim archaeology had proven about 50 some people and places, but without any further references. hmm…

We do know somethings are true. There truly was a Jesus running around according to 3rd sources. We also know certain other characters and places were true. But it’s the willingness to need not prove everything or accept that some of the events (or even myths) might have proceeded “Jewish” culture that makes the difference.

‘And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.’ - Matt 11:23-24
Jesus said it, so there is no doubt Sodom’s destruction was historical.

I find this stuff fascinating because it is connecting what is written in the Bible to real sites in the Middle East. Its giving some validity to the Bible’s “so-called fictional stories”. You have Juris Zarins connecting part of present day Iraq with the Garden of Eden. You have Steve Collins connecting Tall El-hammam (I think in Syria) with the destroyed city of Sodom. You have the ziggurat in Ur (possibly the Tower of Babel) discovered in Iraq. And by looking into other culture’s written traditions from the Middle East, you find a commonality among their folklore (which is turning out to be true).

The reason I find a lot of this exciting is because the past will hopefully guide us (in the here and now) on how to proceed into the future. Meaning, the more the Bible is proven to be historically correct, possibly the more people will take notice of its message. I know there is a lot of obstacles to this happening considering most archeologists don’t believe the Bible to be reliable info.

I agree, but not are all created equal. I contemplated a history degree at one point, so my standards are a bit higher. I think you are guaranteed something of substance from PBS/BBC. The recent National Geographic shorts I’ve seen seam decent. However the stuff on the Discovery Networks has become watch bait…I’m looking at you History Channel. The worst are the Youtube types that think Aliens built the Pyramids, etc.

The danger is that many of these leave the uneducated viewer with the idea that the science is settled or only spread the most fantastical portions of it . They often feed into the biases and preconceptions of the viewer. These viewers then have issues identifying the quality programs that either advance more settled science and/or don’t rely on sensationalism.

Thank you for the heads up. I’ve been trying to find out where and how I can find reliable info on archeological digs in many areas. I do like to read about the more fascinating finds and connections that some sights have toward biblical history. But I also want to make sure I’m not blindly following some whimsical idea that some renegade archeologist came up with. I try to find counter arguments to a lot of those types of archeological finds. One of those finds deals with the interpretations of the cuneiform tablets found in Sumeria. There are a lot of highly polished video productions (on YouTube) stating one interpretation of the cuneiform tablets (ancient astronaut theories). After further investigation, I found out that those interpretations are not held by many others in academia.

The thing that bothers me most is how many people visit those YouTube videos (and how many people actually believe what they see). If you have a place(s) where the average joe can go to get more reliable archeological info (without having to pay a subscription fee if possible), I’d like to know about it. Thanks and Gd bless you.

Often they do that as a way of dismissing them. Nat Geo is no friend of Christianity

I guess ask yourself this, how fantastical and all encompassing are the claims…especially with scan supporting information. There are certainly no real doubt of the Historical Jesus for example. There is solid 3rd party writings about him from his time. None call him the Son of God, that is left to faith.

Who knows? God could have sent that meteor their way. Or God just incinerated them right there on the spot, and that’s what they refuse to say. Wonder if they found that pillar of salt near the area yet 😉

Googled it. It’s cool that all this evidence of biblical history has survived to this day.

And just imagine if we had written records from other cultures that gave us information to what lead up to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Looking at history from the other person’s perspective. Its kind of like how we view ourselves in America and how, say, the Chinese look upon us or maybe the Middle East looks upon us. From that, you get a more historic view from all sides. The beauty of it is that their are other cultures writings such as the Babylonians.

The more archeologists dig, the more interesting finds they come up with and its proving the Bible to be a reliable source. People are seeing a real history being told from the Bible’s perspective; its like reading history of the American Revolution, or the French Revolution, or the Civil Rights Movement. Its a history that we can see and understand and relate to; its not vague. Believe it or not, I’m trying to make a point here but I can’t seem to find the words. Hopefully, I made some sense.
