Nativity of St. John the Baptist: Vigil Mass + Mass During the Day

Would it be liturgically incorrect to have the Sunday Mass readings of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist replace the Saturday vigil Mass readings since the vigil and day Masses are in themselves a different celebration (all fulfilling the one same obligation, however)? I know that the Mass on Saturday, June 23 is not an anticipated Mass but rather a vigil, so is it liturgically incorrect to have the Sunday readings and responsorial psalm read/sung on Saturday night? I have come across a similar situation where the vigil readings are not read for the vigil Mass, but the Sunday readings replace them.
 
Yes it is not correct to celebrate the Mass of the 24th on the 23rd. The Missal says regarding the Vigil Mass “This Mass is used on the evening of 23 June, either before or after First Vespers (Evening Prayer I) of the Solemnity.”

Sadly in my parish the Mass of the Day was celebrated in the evening of June 23rd because the bulletin only had the readings for the Mass of the 24th.
 
I went to evening Mass on Saturday, and we got the Vigil readings. Those going on Sunday will get the Mass during the day readings. It depends on the priest if he chooses the Vigil ones or not on Saturday evening for a Solemnity if I recall right.
 
I think the celebrant chooses which readings he’ll do. It’s the same at Christmas. I’ve never in my life been to a Vigil of the Nativity of the Lord. The Masses celebrated before midnight have always used the readings for the Midnight Mass.

The directions in my diocese say the Vigil mass may said either before or after EPI. [My first reaction is when else could it be said?] It doesn’t say must be used. I don’t know what is intended there.

I presume that most priests saying the Saturday evening mass will also be saying a mass on Sunday and will prefer to use the same readings for both so that his homily will fit both.
 
OF. The question would be rather the Sunday Anticipated Mass on Saturday liturgical evening is to be replaced by the Vigil Mass. Unless a higher authority (Ordinary, Conference, HH Pope) directs otherwise, I have always been told that it was up to the Celebrant.
