Navarre Study Bible?

If you want to get a good taste for the style and orthodoxy of the Navarre Bible, you may want to check out the series of articles that ran in This Rock Magazine by Antonio Fuentes, one of the main editors of the Navarre Commentary series. He ran through most of the books of the Old and New Testament, providing an introduction to each. Much of the same material is found in the introductions to the Navarre. Here’s one of them:

I bought all the volumes on the New Testment in paperback inexpensively from such sources as abe.com and addall com. Often the relevant volume is the first source I check when trying to better understand a New Testament passage. One thing I like about these volumes is that they quote Catholic sources such as the documents of Vatican II, etc. that help to understand what is being said.
The Old Testament volumes are available only in hardbound form, and are much more expensive. First I bought the volume on the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible), which I much like. Later I sampled the other Old Testament volumes by buying the volume on the Wisdom Books and the volume “Chronicles–Maccabbees.” These last two volumes were surprisingly poor, providing only a skimpy paraphrase (rather than an explanation) of the passages at hand on that page. So I am reluctant to purchase any of the other volumes in this set on the Old Testament–unless someone here would especially recommend one or two of them.
