I visited a website forum the other day with some conversations regarding different adult activities of sexual nature. I was curious about something, and found myself interested in a couple of the threads. I had no intentions of committing any mortal sins, and did not commit anything as a result. But then I got thinking about whether this is what people mean by near occasion. Is what I did a sin? I realize it was probably dumb and I shouldn’t mess with that kind of stuff because of the temptation, and I have no business being curious about anything like that, but I just don’t know if it’s a sin or not.

A near occasion for a mortal sin is some thing or person or place etc what generally leads one to commit a particular mortal sin…

also it can be of the nature that it generally leads most to sin…

(or it could also be that you know it will lead one now into the mortal sin…I think such too could be said to be a near occasion of sin…one knows that one is likely here and now…say from knowing oneself and the level of temptation it is presenting here and now…even though normally one is not lead in regards to such and such.)

We are obliged usually to avoid such…and can sin by putting ourselves in them or remaining in them…voluntarily… (ones confessor can help one judge)

As to sin…I do not know what subjectively you were aware of a that time etc…(but one can sin even by disordered curiosity)…you can discuss it in confession where the priest can ask you questions…
