I heard an excellent sermon on this Gospel this morning. I have typed the Gospel out here so you can read it immediately. Hopefully you will understand.
Father also spoke of the one leper who returned to give Glory to God. He said that in confession we receive the purification, but we earn extra graces after confession when we give thanksgiving to God for the graces of a good confession.
He spoke of the ten lepers having faith and hope but only the one that returned had charity. Gratitude is extremely important. Also, frequent confession. By the way i go to a latin mass centre. This gospel was for the thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost.
To me, this Gospel gives proof of the necessity of the Sacrament of Confession and the necessity to be Catholic…
God bless you
Father explained that the ten lepers symbolised the ten commandments. The lepers stood afar off, (which symbolised those souls in mortal sin who cry to Jesus from a distance). Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests…and on the way they were made clean (Father explained that those who cry to Jesus for forgiveness directly - may not receive it (in its entirety as it is necessary for our souls to receive purification (by the sacrament of confession) - he explained that in the old testament the priests did not have the power to to make the lepers clean, but in the new testament the priests do have the power to purify the soul through the sacrament of confession. The necessity of confession, as Jesus both forgives and purifies the soul. If you go directly to Jesus (without confession) you are stopping your soul from receiving the purification that it needs to become perfect to enter into Heaven. And it came to pass, as he was going to Jerusalem, he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain town, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood afar off. And lifted up their voice, saying Jesus, master, have mercy on us. Whom when he saw, he said "Go shew yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were made clean. And one of them, when he saw that he was made clean, went back, with a loud voice glorifying God. And he fell on his face before his feet, giving thanks: and this was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were not ten made clean? and where are the nine? There is no one found to return and give glory to God, but this stranger. And he said to him : Arise, go thy way; for thy faith hath made thee whole.
