she’s 13 and claims to be an athiest. very recent development. says “none of it is real.”

any suggestions?

Are you going to Mass as a family? The best witness to the truth is your position as her parent and how she sees you practicing your faith. Is you pastor kid friendly? Ours has these little “talks” with pre-teens all the time. They usually come out of it fine.
I can’t think of a book off the top of my head, but I know others will have good ideas for you. Pray for patience. God bless you.

Make a family pilgrimage to martyrs-shrine.com or martyrshrine.org. or some place similar.

Read about these saints in advance of your trip. Take your time getting there. Be slow and thoughtful during your journey.

It is difficult to miss the meaning and purpose of their lives in the past, present and future.

I recommend looking around on reasonablefaith.org and its store (top right-hand corner), very thoughtful stuff there. Challenge your daughter to actually provide reasons for thinking “none of it is real” instead of just making an assertion.

I just finished reading Jennifer Fulwiler’s wonderful book, Something Other Than God… I mention it not for your daughter, but to suggest Jennifer as a potential resource. She was raised atheist, and she and her husband converted to Catholicism. It might be worth contacting her through her blog, conversiondiary.com She’s a busy lady, so I’m not sure how quickly you might receive an answer, but she’s uniquely qualified to make some suggestions!

I’ll offer a prayer for you and your daughter this evening. Bless you!

“Handbook of Christian Apologetics” by Peter Kreeft, which I think has 20 proofs for the existence of God.
peterkreeft.com/topics-more/20_arguments-gods-existence.htm

Also, you have Thomas Aquinas’ “5 proofs for the existence of God”.

I wouldn’t recommend she read those. I’d recommend you read through the 20 arguments and then pick one and talk to her.

Sometimes, Catholic Answers does where they have atheists call in and talk to their apologetics people. During one of those, if she wanted to, she could call in and see what they say. They are very good at fielding these kinds of questions.

This. 👍 This is far superior to any book. But of course, it would be also beneficial to provide some good reading material for her as well, which I think there are some good ones mentioned here already. ^.^

I think this is a great idea. However, from I understand, there are generally tons of callers, and only a very few actually get a chance to ask a question. So I think the chances of her getting through might be 1 in a 100, unfortunately. 😦

Also OP, I’m sure u already know this, but even archaeology proves the Bible to be more believable than fiction, and u can talk about this with your daughter. Thankfully, there are many sites on this. Here’s one of them: prevailmagazine.org/how-archaeology-proves-the-bible/.

I’ve called Catholic Answers, gotten through on that atheist call-in with my ex-husband.
It can be done, because I’ve done it.

I definitely agree with u that it can be done, but it’s just that I’ve heard from others that have tried many times, but have been unable to get through. 😦 Unfortunately, there’s only so many people that can get through in an hour show, but OP, don’t let that discourage you, it certainly doesn’t hurt to try calling in anyway. 🙂

I haven’t read these ones, but someone referred these 2 books to me from the “Prove It” series, called “Prove it God” and “Prove it Jesus” by Amy Welborn. From what I was told, the series is geared particularly for teens and is quite understandable and easy to read. The reader comments towards both books seem pretty positive, too.

Here’s a link for [“Prove it God”](would be the Prove It series, like “Prove it God” and “Prove it Jesus” by Amy Welborn. The series is also written in an easy to read/understand format geared toward teens/preteens) and “Prove it Jesus”.

“The Demon Haunted World” by Carl Sagan is a classic pre-new atheist read that will help with understanding a different way of thinking.

You may want to read it as well to better relate to your daughter as she explores and becomes her own person.
