My oldest daughter has a friend who is terminally ill. She’s ok right now, but her disease will eventually be the end of her. Thus far she’s managed to amaze all the doctors with her progress and determination. But since this is a genetic disorder there’s really little to be done about the eventual prognosis (except pray, naturally). I don’t want to get too in depth because she’s not my child and this is a public forum …

She recently lost her saint medal. She’s not Catholic, but a friend gave her a St. Bernadette medal quite a while ago. I’m going to go buy her a nice new one for the next time we visit but I’d like to find a medal to give her sister too. She has a fraternal twin sister who is fine and has no issues with her health.

Is there an appropriate saint for twins? Sisters? People who love and care for the terminally ill?

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps St. Therese, the Little Flower? She and her four sisters all entered the religious life (three joined her in the Carmelite order!) and they were all very close throughout their lives, especially after their mother died of cancer when Therese was a little girl. I’m sure the older sisters also helped care for Therese while she was dying in the convent of tuberculosis. No twins in that family, but everything else fits pretty well, no?

I’ll be praying for your daughter’s friend and all of you!

Two others who come to mind are:

Saint Thomas the Apostle (whose name, we’re told, means “Twin”);
Saint Camillus deLillis, whose feast day is today. He is the patron of hospitals, nurses, and the sick.

Hope that helps.
