Need a quick answer - before Mass in 1 hour

If you do not feel you should recieve Holy Communion, what are the options?

One could sit it out in the pew.
Is is appropriate to walk up to either the Priest or the EM and simply bless oneself with the sign of the cross?

Is it the same regardless of whether it is the Priest or the EM?
 
Remaining in the pew is the proper thing to do. Make a Spiritual Communion.

And don’t just sit it out, kneel and pray.

To answer your other question no it is not the same whether a priest or lay person blesses you regardless of them been an EMHC or not, but I guess that is irrelevant now.

No it’s not appropriate to go up for a blessing. The priest blesses everyone at the end of Mass.

Rather then ‘sit it out’ in the pew, as already mentioned pray a Spiritual act of Communion.

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
 
All that withstanding - some priests are the type that if you go in and say Father I need to make confession they will give you an opportunity - I know that is one thing mine is very good at - so leave now and go. Get your Sacraments in order and sin no more. If you cannot get Reconciliation then all of the above posters are exactly right!
