Hi to everyone.

Being my first time here, this thread might look a little bit long, but I really want to explain it the best I can.

I met a Brazilian girl 8 months ago. I was working at a restaurant and she came to work there too. I’m never afraid of taking risks, and because my co-workers were challenging each other to be the one who wines her heart I really got attracted to her. In the beggining it looked to me that she was the typical brazilian stereotype (if we can say so), liberal, baptized but not practicing, totally out of my beliefs, and I tried to keep out of reach, but never could. We started out dating.

The environment at the restaurant was keeping me going out at night and drinking a lot. One day we both kissed, and I felt that something could come out of that. We dated still and one day I asked her to be my girlfriend, and told me that she couldn’t accept, because she had just broken up three months ago with a guy, and they lived toghether. (I have to admit that I’ve always had problems and still praying and working hard on abstinence and chastity) Any how, that broke my heart, even though I knew that, I kept on dating her. I thought there was really something!! and really didn’t want to give up on someone just because of that, was that a call??

One of those party days I was drunk and slept with her, two weeks after I confessed and felt a real relief, so I decided to tell her that she ment something to me, that wasn’t the way I wanted to have a relationship, 'cause wasn’t the way I preach and believe, and because she wanted to keep on seeing each other that way, we had to stop dating and seeing.

I really don’t know if my fears of falling again went away, or that I really put my thoughts and prayer into it, but after one week I dated her again, and told her that I rathered be with her than far from her, that I had to live the way I believe and if she agreed we could see each other again, so she did. I think some of you can imagine the next, I had premarital relations with her again, and felt really bad with my self, sometimes I told her that that wasn’t what I wanted but any way I kept on falling!!! One of those days she told me that for her, to abstain was hard, having the feelings she had for me and her beliefs, that approve all of it, but that she will be working for it if that was what I wanted.

Well we kept on dating four more months, she went back to Brazil and came back again before Christmas to spend a holiday, then I went to Brazil to meet her family and kept owr premarital status. Her family was once Catholic, and have a thong against cathoic, but not much that they know (somewhere I read only the 5% hate what catholicism is and the rest what they think It is)

Now I’m here back in Mexico, willing to see her again next month, having thoughts of marrying her and having a family, I think I would stand the discussions about values and morals, I think I would win some battles, not all, but when it comes to my best wish, which is to raise a large nice Catholic family, it makes me scared, what would grant me that it will be that way, am I going to spend the day long with them trying to keep away their Mother’s point of view?? Is it really going to work?? I’m still thinking that running and looking for a good Mexican catholic would be cowardice, and I’m still praying for God to give me chastity, love and after all to make me do His will. I’m still convinced premarital relations is not the way to direct a relationship to a saint marriage, and I’m working hard on my own will-power and prayer, but still need advice.

Probably this is not so clear, in my head and in spanish it seems enough, I hope to have replies and some prayer from you guys. And enjoy the reading it goes with my heart and desire to realize God’s kingdom on earth.

Blessings to all.

Hi CHORE,

Is there a Catholic priest you could speak with about these issues? Maybe you and your girlfriend could sit down with the priest and see if your beliefs are compatible. I’m so sorry you’ve already had physical relations, that makes things so much more emotionally difficult. You might want to try and make sure that you and your girlfriend are not alone on your dates, go to public places, hang out with friends, etc. It’s more difficult to fall when there are others around. If you two aren’t alone, you won’t fall again. You sound like you really want to do the right thing here, and I think a good long talk with a priest or deacon could help you sort out your feelings. Also, prayer can be the best way for God to speak to you. Go somewhere quiet and peaceful and talk with God. He wants you to be happy, He knows the best path for you, and if you seek Him and let Him speak to you, He will guide you. God bless you.

Hi Chore,

I agree with tcay. Go and see a priest. Confess of your past sins and try to aviod situations that lead you into sin (such as, getting drunk).

You said: “'cause wasn’t the way I preach and believe” My dear brother in Christ, are you all talk?

My suggestion to you is stop getting drunk, drinking 1 or 2 is ok but don’t drink to the point of losing control. We are called to love God with all our Hearts, Minds, Body & Soul. It is very hard when we drink all the time.

When I turned my life over to the Lord, completely, I had to also turn my drinking and smoking friends and coworkers over to him too. Yes, you will loose some friends, but if they only like you when you are drinking, are those the type of friends you really want?

Maybe some of them are trying to find a way out of that lifestyle too.
Our prayers are with you.

Just a thought here. If you are unable to live chastely before marriage, what guarantee is there that you or she will live chastely (that is, save marital relations only for each other) after marriage?

You are right to worry about what will happen after marriage regarding children. God willing, she would come around to the Church’s point of view. God’s grace works in all people if they accept it. Unfortunately, you can’t know that she will come to believe in the Church’s point of view, and if she is home with the children, her views will weigh more heavily than yours. You might even find your own beliefs dimished. It certainly seems like your’e saying it has been harder to live your beliefs with your girlfriend around.

I agree with the previous posters. Start living what you preach. No more getting drunk. No more putting yourself into occassions of sin. Find a good priest to talk with.

God’s blessing on you. Go do the right thing!

Did you love her before you slept with her? Bear in mind that during sex, chemicals are released in the brain that cause you to become emotionally attached to the person with whom you had sexual relations. That is why so many people fall into the trap of marry the person that the slept with: they think they love them, but really, it is just a chemical reaction. I sincerely believe that if your relationship can’t survive without sex, then it is time to end it. I also agree that a priest could help you and your girlfriend decide if you will be compatible and be able to live a moral life.

Based on your post, it appears that your attraction to her is mostly physical. If you want to raise a large good, Catholic family, get looking for the perfect MOTHER for your future children. Not a sex-kitten who is a liberal non-practicing Catholic. This is hard to hear when your heart is tied up with this Brazilian girl, but you won’t be sorry when you begin your married life with a woman with the same faith as you.

Practice what you believe! Stay away from situations that are likely to tempt you to sin! Quit the going out drinking and partying.

Best wishes to you. We need more men willing raise good Catholic families with faith.

Hey

Thank you all for your messages.

It really helps a lot, believe me.

And please don’t be so harsh on me, my writing is not good (remember I’m Mexican) , but that doesn’t mean that I’m a licentious man who drinks every day to get drunk, that happened long ago. In fact I’m no longer working in that restaurant since september, which environment I agrre wasn’t good; and I’ve never been a drunk party seeker.

Of course I’ve confessed all my sins, and I follow confession regularly as well as prayer and comunion.

Probably I’m in love of an image, only prayer will make me know, I’ve put my entire life in God’s hands.

I will try to find a Priest to talk with, in fact I’v been reluctant to talk about the whole matter to a priest. I know I should trust this to a priest.

Ahh I’m not all talk, probably I’m the only case you know, but I’m fighting to live a Christian life, and I know I have issues, but that is what they are Issues that only Grace from God will cure, that happens a lot so blame the sin not the sinner :).

So thank you all again, if you have more to tell me please I’m all ears and heart to listen.

God bless you all.

Try to make this relationship more based upon each other and personalities rather than the physical aspect. THis will make it a lot more strong. She is not to be a sex-toy for you, but rather, a beautiful flower for you to respect!

God Bless–JMJ

Chore: Hi, I am mexican too, mexican-american that is!!! I am a 2nd generation American. My grandfather and great-grandfather imigrated to the US many years ago. I have family in Mexico, Texas and California!!! It is because of them that my family has their strong catholic faith. My father is the oldest of 16 children!!! His name is Manuel.

If I were you in this situation, I would end this relationship. Your heart may be broken now, but for the long term, it may save you much heartache in the future. This woman does not share your desire to serve God, the most important part of your life, and she may never. If she loves you and you love her then you want to help each other get to heaven, to become saints. This does not appear to be the case.

Find a woman that shares your desire to be a holy, faithful catholic. Stay chase in the relationship–couples who wait until after marriage have a very small divorce rate–and better marriages. This will be better for you and your future children.

God bless you, you sound like a fine young man who loves God and wants to serve Him. Stay focused on the “big” picture.
Pray and seek advice from a good and holy priest.

Hey Chris

Thank you for you comments, you know I know I’m a ffraid of talking seriously about this matter to her, because I know that at the end will broke up.

I’m affraid of loosing her, but you are all right, I rather heaven on earth and paradise on the next life.

Yesterday I talked to a priest about this, and he told me the same thing I’ve been thinking on and some of you have said, I should talk straight and probably this will end.

I’ll do that.

Thank’s
