I’m not quite sure what to do about this, so I’d appreciate a little help.

Almost a year ago, my car started using about a quart of oil every 2000-2500 miles, which is apparently within GMC’s recommended normal consumption range. I brought it to the dealership, and they checked the car out extensively, and we did oil consumption studies lasting months. They first said it was a problem, but at the end of this, they say the car is fine and there was nothing that needed to be done.

But worry about it, I do. So I’d like to sell my car to a dealer. The question is, do I disclose this, knowing that it’s supposedly within the normal range? If I was selling to an individual, I’d disclose this info. without question. My concern is that the dealer will use this as an excuse to give me even less than they should and won’t disclose this to whoever they sell the car to. Thanks for the help.

It’s within manufacturers specs for the vehicle, therefore considered normal. I wouldn’t be concerned about reporting normal function. If it is the dealer you’re concerned about lying to you, kick it up a notch to a regional rep.

I guess it depends how old the car is, and what one would expect from a car like yours. An oil leak isn’t a big deal on an older car. Dealers will check the car over and probably notice it anyway.
