I am newly catholic, I just completed the RCIA program, my husband is already catholic.

I am not on any kind of birth control, but do have a question regarding birth control.

Is it a sin or considered a form of birth control, if my husband “pulls out” during sex??

thanks
k.t.

Yes, it is. At least materially – we don’t know his state of mind or knowledge when doing it. But yes, it’s wrong. The only acceptable form of avoiding pregnancy is total abstinence from intercourse. Abstinence from intercourse also means that sexual caressing which could lead to orgasm or ejaculation is not allowed, as orgasm or ejaculation belongs only in marital intercourse. Pulling out aka coitus interruptus is exactly the sin of Onan and he was slain for that, according to the Bible. The husband must ejaculate in the wife’s vagina.

Have you heard of NFP? Natural family planning is a simple, effective way of considering God’s will in family planning. Couples can either achieve or delay pregnancy. Delaying is accomplished by abstaining from sex on days when the wife is fertile. As your pastor about an NFP class you can take.
