Need book recommendations for 11 yr old questioning faith and bible

Hi,

I have an 11 yr old niece who has been attending CCD classes for the past 4 yrs but at home, they are not practicing the faith (mother is not catholic but father is catholic). My husband saw our niece today and she asked how we know the bible was not an exaggeration of the truth. She enjoys reading about science and fantasy.

What books would you recommend at a young adult level that would be good at explaining the catholic faith and bible? I was thinking the catechism is a good start.

Unless it’s really graphic (and I haven’t seen the book), 11 is a pretty good time to start talking about chastity. It’s when their friends start talking about sex. . . .

I actually have this book, and it’s sequel “Did Jesus have a last name?” I enjoyed reading and learning from the questions that fellow teens asked(Lifeteen actually sells the book). As the parents of your child, I think you’re in a position to know if they can handle the questions on dating and relationships in the book. If they’ve had a sex ed class, then I think they’ll have been exposed to everything in it. You could always get the book, read it yourself, and decide when to give it to your child.

It’s not graphic, they just say what’s needed and nothing more.

Thank you everyone for your book suggestions. I will review the books myself before giving any of them to my niece. I think she is old enough to know about chastity based on some of the books she has read.
