Need Book Recommendations.

Greetings all,

I am looking for some recommendations of good reading material that focuses on history. I am looking for books about the tribulations of the church from Pentecost until Islam, other books focusing on the church and Islam from the start of Islam until the reformation, and lastly, from the reformation until about the start of the twentieth century.

Warren Carroll has a whole series on Church history. I just finished reading the second volume (“The Building of Christendom” is the name of the series), which covers the time from Constantine through the First Crusade. It was very good, and I look forward to reading more of the series.

I would recommend historian Thomas Madden’s “A Concise History of the Crusades” for Crusade history.

Christ the King, Lord of History. Very easy to read and written by Anne Carroll the wife of Warren Carroll—same material but more concise. Warren Carroll is a convert who founded Christendom College.

The historical pivots that they use:

1. The Truth exists.
2. The Incarnation happened.

From hence, history is to be viewed in light of these foundations, this is called Christocentric history.

I would recommend “The Age of Martyrs” by Abbot Giuseppe Ricciotti which covers the persecutions of Christians from Diocletian (284) to Constantine (337).
