Im having a discussion with an evangelical about salvation. I need help with this response.

You are taking verses out of context. Paul was addressing others who were saved, were in the process of being saved and hoped to be saved.
As for continued sin in his own life- Paul said- the things I don’t want to do, I do. He never said, I am lost because I do the things I don’t want to do. Romans 7:14-25

Nolepaul- Jesus didn’t come so that we would have to live in fear wondering if we have done enough to save ourselves. He didn’t suffer so that when we die we have to go someplace else first and be punished for our sins- he already paid the price.
