My 18 year old daughter is interested in mission work - preferably in a spanish speaking country (though she is not (yet) fluent inspanish. She loves her Faith, and is very imaginative and self sufficient. She is also very musical, having performed professionally in more than a dozen states since she was 12.

We are looking for a good mission that could use someone like her, but aren’t sure where to begin looking. We don’t want her to end up in something like a Marynoll mission.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Actually, I don’t, please elaborate.

But if you are looking, here is a thread that may have some information:

I have been to Honduras 3 times doing Mission work. The Mission is called Mission Honduras, and it was started by an American Franciscan Priest about 30 years ago. I would highly recommend that she seriously look at their Mission- they have a wide variety of things that she could do, and she can go whenever and for whatever amount of time works for her. Their website is

www.missionhonduras.com

I can post more info if you would like, or please feel free to Private Message me.

I had a college friend who was also fluent in Spanish, who did some mission work after college with CFCA - Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. She worked at a project in Honduras. CFCA - as far as I can tell - is a very Catholic organization.

One of our local priests has worked with a project through CFCA in Haiti. What progress has been made there!

welcome to the forums, please check out the stickies, there is a rule against multiple posts on the same question.

get on the bishop’s website usccb.org and find the link to Catholic Relief Services, they have a publication called Catholic Response, which is a compilation of local and foreign missions and charities that accept volunteers. It is broken down by location, age range of volunteers, type of service (education, manual labor, medical ectc.) and gives info on the sponsoring organization, training and skills, nature of the work etc.

I seem to remember the Rockford Diocese having something, as well as the Archdiocese of Chicago. You can research their sites. But there is also a priory called San Jose in Guatemala. it is run by the Swiss Benedictines.
