I bought my first Rosary today. There are alot of different websites that tell how to Pray The Rosary. They are all different, which do I use? And is there a special way to hold The Rosary? Any thing else I need to know to Pray The Rosary? I was baptized Catholic but only went to church a couple times as a child.

Can you list some of the websites you went to?

Congrats!

Ok, brief rundown (and there is variation, but this is the basic format:)
  1. Make the sign of the Cross
  2. On the crucifix, say the Apostle’s Creed
  3. First Our Father
  4. 3 Hail Marys (some meditate on the virtues of faith, hope, and love during these)
  5. On the spaces between the last hail mary and the next Our Father, say the Glory Be and the Fatima prayer
  6. Announce the first Mystery
  7. Our Father
  8. 10 Hail Marys
  9. Glory Be/Fatima prayer
  10. Announce next Mystery
    repeat sequence
When finished with all 5 mysteries, it is traditional to end with the following prayers:
  11. Hail, Holy Queen
  12. Oh God, whose only begotten Son
  13. Saint Michael
Sign of the Cross

Here’s a good website:
rosary-center.org/howto.htm
or
rosary.virtualave.net/ (this one has meditations for each Mystery)

As for how to hold it, don’t sweat it, whatever way is comfortable for you.

The Rosary is an excellent way to pray.

If you keep saying it you will see how you will be drawn closer to the Lord, and wanting to do what He Wills.

If you want, you can do a search for a Scriptural Rosary. In this type of Rosary there is a line of Scripture before each Hail Mary. It helps one to focus on the mystery better.

Pick up a Rosary CD like the one linked in my signature below. Listen to it as long as you need to.

livingpeace, this is what I recommend:

  1. *]If you haven’t already done so, have your rosary blessed. After mass sometime (if the Priest is staying near the door to great people leaving), take your rosary to the priest and ask for him to bless it. That does not take time.
*]Be patient and be willing to go slow on the learning part. Before I started RCIA, I got a rosary. And at first I think I merely prayed only a few prayers at a time with it. Perhaps the Lord’s prayer one time. Perhaps a Hail Mary another time. A month or two after RCIA began I was up to praying an “Our Father”, 10 Hail Marys and another “Our Father” in an evening prayer (all without any rosary mysteries).
*]By Christmas, I had almost learned what all the Rosary Mysteries were. But even so, I had not prayed more than five mysteries in any one day.
In other words… don’t be anxious. Be willing to start little and grow little bit by little bit. And you will learn to love the Rosary because it brings to your mind the Gospel message. And because prayer is so special.

I found a few books very helpful.

Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s book “The Rosary: Chain of Hope” was very helpful – with it I was able to memorize the mysteries of the Rosary. Because there is a good picture and about a page-and-a-half on each mystery.

Saint Louis De Montfort’s book “The Secret of the Rosary”. It very much helped me to grow in appreciation of the prayers and of the Rosary.

How rich a blessing the Rosary is. And in praying the Rosary, do not ignore the many other treasures that Mary and Our Lord have provided within the Church. There are other special prayers. And other special sacramental objects that can tend to bring our hearts closer to Jesus and Mary.

And definitely begin attending Mass every Sunday. And ask a priest if there is a group or program that would be good for you to attend. Tell him your circumstances and see if you can find a group where you can go and learn more about your faith.
