Thank you all for your beautiful responses. I didn’t want to go into lengthy detail about Vatican II, but it was removal of alter railings, ect… which I was accustomed too. I always felt when I walked into Church it was Holy Ground. The changes I experience were not Sacred Tradition, but changes in the way things were done. I personally have an OCD about any change in my life.I’m working on that, My wife converted to the Faith and has received the Sacraments. It was more about hurt, pain and humiliation we suffered at the hands of some one that should have been better than that. I have tried hard to forgive and put it behind me. I grew up in a time when we looked to priest as having all the answers and nuns wore habits. This was unfair view of priest, I realize it now, that I too was judging.I would rather not go into more detail, I just want so bad to come home to the One,Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Everything else I want to put behind me. I don’t care what the rest of my family thinks,I only care what God thinks. You have made me feel welcome, please keep me in your prayers. There is a lot to forgive, but God forgave me.Pray I get over my OCD and still have charity towards non Catholics.
God Bless you all!
Welcome Home! I, too was away from the Church, only for me it was over 60 Years. I fell away from the Church when I went to sea in 1954. In those days, only huge ships, such as Battleships, Cruisers, and Aircraft Carriers had Chaplains- and then, the Chaplain was not always Catholic.
In any case, coming back was a little bit of a shock, with the Sacrements and the Mass
being in English instead of Latin. However, I had the advantage of a Jesuit elementary and secondary school education, so, the only thing that were changed were the physical things, like the lack of altar rails, etc. However these things are only physical things, symbols as it were, and has no meaning to the core of our Catholic beliefs.
I would strongly suggest that you find a parisn or Catholic institution that is manned by Jesuit or Dominican priests. Call and make an appointment with any one of them and tell him exactly what you have written in this thread. If he doesn’t have the time to help you, he certainly can and will refer you to someone who can help you. These two particular priestly orders are experts on problems such as yours. And, you can be assured that you will be getting an answer that is of whole cloth about the teachings of the Church! I assure you that you will get psychic as well as religious relief from these priests.

Thank you so much Reuben, for your beautiful insight. I'm sad though to say the prejudice against the Charisms of the Holy Spirit seem to still be around.
Yes it is sad, but we must not let that prevent us from being light and salt.
I just say it on another thread. I don’t understand, because it i a part of the Catholic Faith. I even found it in my old CCC #2004. I’m not trying to say everyone should have the Gifts or it be done in Mass. I just don’t get the prejudice of something that is in Church teaching. I’m I all wet? is there something I don’t understand?
People have always been suspicious of the spontaneous activity of the HS. There have also been some heretical movements around the charisms, and then the recect “protestantism” that has crept into the Church by way of the Pentecostal movement.
The charism are so beautiful it has always been a part of me, like the Eucharist. To reject the Gifts of the Holy Spirit for me is me rejecting the Spirit of God. I just don’t get why people are so resistant to something that is in the CCC.
Fear.

I was anointed by Catholic priest when I was a teenager at a Catholic prayer group, in the Catholic Church. This is my one that hurts the most. I love the Catholic Faith, but this by people I do not get. This I need a lot of help and prayer, I can't reject what is a part of me,unless I am I'll wet about Catholic Church teaching on the CCC #2004 ?
And you should not reject it, since the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

It is a matter of where God wants you to use your gifts. Think of it…if the Aposltes became discouraged about sharing their gifts and ministry when they were rejected, beaten and imprisoned, where would the Church be now?

You also participate in the grief of the HS for the Church in our time, because there is a rejection of the gifts in many places.

Eph 4:29-31
29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption.

I have met people on CAF who have very mean things to say about the charisms. You are participating in the grief of the HS in this matter.

Thank you once again guanophore for your wisdom in this matter. I do grief with the Holy Spirit in this matter of so much misunderstanding. The Gifts in no way, shape, or form should ever take any thing from the Catholic Faith, but build her up in Faith. The Eucharist is such a Miracle, that most Protestant churches can’t understand. Bread and Wine turned into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit in Liturgical Worship. It is the Super Natural breaking into the natural realm,by Faith in Jesus Christ. It is the same with the Charisms of the Holy Spirit.Tongues are not the only gift and they are least of the gifts.Joy,Peace, happiness, love, endurance, long suffering, are also gifts of the Holy Spirit. Teaching is one of the Charisms of the Spirit and so many on this sight have this gift and I don’t even know if they realize it. It is so beautiful when we look at it’s proper perspective, that is why I don’t understand so much objection. The Gift of healing is another gift. I don’t know it this is in the Churches Teaching, but why should we suffer what the Evil one puts on us(sickness, kill, steal, destroy) when we have an Advocate for us.Christ came so we might be whole,Body, mind and soul. I know the Church must be careful about people abusing things. But isn’t that why the Church Test each spirit to see if it is indeed from God. Fear is not one of God’s gifts, I feel it is from the evil one(my opinion). Penticost is were the Catholic Church was revealed to the World. 3,000 were saved that day and anointed with the Holy Spirit, besides the Apostles. Penticost is not just for protestant , it is a Catholic thing. People need to understand this. An use only to Glorify the Catholic Faith. Bless you for your wisdom.

As the Aposlte James says, we do not have because we do not ask, or we ask amiss. There is much teaching that needs to be brought to the faithful on this gift of healing. Every Eucharist should be a healing Mass, but so many rush to leave afterwards, not knowing that the moments after receiving are those where His healing power is the strongest.

I just read a post from someone who said she had a malady for 9 years, but it never occurred to her to ask God to heal it. She did, and He did! I know it is not that simple in all cases, but certainly God desires to give us much more than we are willing or open to receive.

1 Cor 2:8-10
9 But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the human heart conceived,
what God has prepared for those who love him” —

10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

You are right on that point!

1 John 4:18
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love.

The evil one loves to keep the saints shackled with fear. It is one of his favorite weapons.

It is my prayer that you now return to the faith into which you were baptized and confirmed with holy boldness, being filled with love which will cast out all fear. I pray that God will show you in no uncertain terms how your gifts once again can serve His Body as they were meant to do.

There have been many changes in recent years, and you can start getting yourself ready for active ministry by getting your prerequisites done. You will need to take the required class in prevention of child abuse, and your diocese may have catechetical requirements. I recently completed my graduate coursework and am now ready to get back involved in parish life, and found that I need all these classes! You can’t test out either…😦

So I am going to work on that first as I pray about where God wants me. Check with the diocesan office. Tell them you need adult faith formation, and that you are interested in becoming a catechist. Even if you don’ t end up doing that, you can have the preparaation completed so you will be ready for whatever God has in mind. I had to choose an age group and picked high school, though I am really wanting to work with adults. A couple years in the confirmation prep program thoroughly broke my heart on the lack of readiness of those kids.

I came to the Catholic Church from the Assemblies of God, where I trained to be a pastor. The charismatic gifts kind of went with the territory. Since becoming Catholic, I have been to several different parishes. What I would recommend to you is, if possible, find a parish that has a charismatic prayer group. With regard to your gift, it won’t be used in precisely the same way as it was in protestant churches. Partly because the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is reserved for the priest. That’s not to say your gift won’t be used, you just need to find a parish with a charismatic prayer group. Then speak to the priest, and follow his directions on how your gift can be utalized in the Church.
God’s richest blessing on you!

There are Charismatic priests who utilize prayer teams after healing masses where there is more time and attention to prayers for healing. Most prayer groups also pray regularly for their members.

Nowadays I notice that most people very active in the Renewal 30-40 years ago are retiring, and the ones who have been involved less time have moved into various parish ministries. There are a number of them who are extraordinary ministers and take Eucharist to the hospitals where they pray for people who want it.

Just wanted to give every one an up date, you all been so beautiful. I have called my local parish and left a message, to meet the priest, so I can be in total fullness with the Catholic Church. Please keep praying! God Bless all of you and I’ll keep you all in my prayers too!

Patrick I’m so pleased for you, as others will be.
God BLESS you!
I thank Him for His graces and for your courage in seeking responses her and in welcoming God’s graces

Warm regards and prayers,
Trishie

Patrick, you made my night! I’ll be praying for you and your family.

Patrick just go to your ‘secret place’ that place where you commune with the Father and there are NO distractions. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a plan on how to lead your family to the Catholic faith. He will guide you, and remember when we finally leave this earth realm and are standing before the Father he is not going to want to know which Christian denomination we were a part of here on earth he is going to ask us did we know his Son. Make sure as head of your household each member knows they need a personal relationship with Christ first. Perhaps you can start off with daily scripture readings, maybe at the dinner table? Then as the Lord leads you can introduce going to your local Catholic church. I pray you and your family 1) have a loving and personal relationship with Jesus 2) find a wonderful Catholic church home to call your own and be a part of the congregation. God will provide.
