Hello,

My son is a second grader and he LOVES to wear religious medals. On Mercy Sunday He recieved first communion and was given a St. Michael medal.

My problem is this…being a young boy he plays HARD. and has lost at least 20 medals over the last few years. THe St. Michael medal cost around $30 and it lasted a whole 4 days.

DOes anyone know where SUPER DURABLE strong medals and chains are sold for situations like my sons?

Thanks

I might suggest going with some kind of string or rope for the necklace. For the medals, I’m sure finding really strong medals would cost quite a bit, so it might be a better idea to just buy the cheapy versions until he grows enough to stop losing them.

Call me cheap, but I would take the opposite route: buy some really cheap medals so you don’t have to worry if they get lost. For example, autom.com/ has very inexpensive medals in bulk (e.g., 12 per pack) that can average less that a dollar each. You can give the extras to friends. I typed the words “St. Michael medal” in the product search box and got several choices.

Count your blessings — it is wonderful that he loves religious medals! (Maybe you should be praying about a religious vocation?)

Maybe pin them to the inside of his shirts? I remeber my aunt doing something similar when I was a lee lass! LOL

I don’t think a young child should have anything hanging around their neck while playing, and the more active he is the more dangerous it is. Since towns that have ID systems for kids use a shoe-lace tag, I recommend putting a sturdy medal, nickel or pewter on a shoelace tag clip, or on a jacket zipper tag, back-pack clip or other option.l

I’ve gotta agree with Philo and Annie, cords around the neck are awesome to wear, but they don’t mesh well with extreme activity. And, I don’t know where to get super durable strong medals (because, no matter what, it’s going to be attached to the cord by just a couple loops of metal), but I know exactly where to get 75c. medals 😉

I’ll agree with others. I’d say a chain that would break rather than cause injury is best for a child. Here is a another link for inexpensive chains and medals …
